“They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power.”
Patrick Henry
Outstanding !! Give me liberty or give me death !
This has got to be one of the greatest speeches of all time.
Most never even heard of it.
Actually, I have to correct myself. The best speech is from the book of Acts by Stephen. That is my name also, my mother knew me in her womb and knew I would learn, have a big mouth and get stoned …lol. But Stephen really gave it to the bad guys. His words were so true that those around him dragged him out of the court to the streets and stoned him without finishing his trial.. Yes, Stephens speech is by far the best speech of all time, barring the words of Christ. Stephen spoke of history, and told them their own history. That is all he did. And they killed him.
I was so named also.
After him.
