State of Texas Forcing Epileptic Man to Suffer, Facing Jail Time for Trying to Self-Medicate

Port Arthur, Texas – Epileptic and self-prescribed medical marijuana patient Jeremy Bourque is facing jail time for growing 3 marijuana plants that were intended to be used for personal medical consumption.

Jeremy’s home was raided back in April and he was charged with possession and cultivation of marijuana, and now he is due in court this week to begin his trial.

Jeremy was diagnosed with Epilepsy at the age of 15 and has been hospitalized more than 10 times since his diagnosis, including one time in which he was in a coma for over a week.

Over the years, Jeremy has learned to manage his condition with medical marijuana. Unfortunately since his arrest he has lost access to his medicine and is now experiencing heightened symptoms as a result.

The medicine from these three plants would have been enough for me to live seizure-free and productive for a year. Instead my family was frightened, my equipment was destroyed, and my plants were unceremoniously uprooted and absconded with. Since then, without my own treatment, I’ve been in and out of the hospital for seizure related injuries more times since March than I have in my thirty eight year existence,” Jeremy wrote on his fundraising page.

Jeremy’s trial is set to begin on January 26th, and he is hoping that his case can help spark some change in the state as drug prohibition and medical marijuana is being heavily debated.

The irony of my situation is that it is very likely that the state of Texas will be giving serious consideration very soon to both medical marijuana as well as the decriminalization of less than an ounce of marijuana. I truly believe that now is the time for a serious discussion about marijuana law reform in Texas, and the increasing media attention of my barbaric prosecution will further mariuana law reform in my state,” Jeremy said.

At Jeremy’s previous court appearances, a number of supporters showed up to protest the arrest, standing outside with signs and t-shirts offering encouragement to the persecuted medical marijuana patient.

Jeremey’s area has become a focal point for the debate around medical marijuana in the state of Texas, and a good bit of it is actually tied into his case. In fact, just a few months ago, Faith Bodle, a medical marijuana patient with degenerative spine disease, congestive heart failure and arthritis was actually banned from her own church after she was seen on television supporting Jeremy at one of his court appearances.

When asked about the laws against marijuana, Jeremy explains to The Free Thought Project that “someone’s zip code should not determine whether they suffer from seizures or not.”

Jeremy is encouraging supporters to help spread the word, and if they have the financial means, to help fund his legal defense through his fundraising page.

  1. “Jeremy was diagnosed with Epilepsy at the age of 15 and has been hospitalized more than 10 times since his diagnosis, including one time in which he was in a coma for over a week.”

And they’d (the so-called ‘medical’ establishment AND the so-called ‘government’) like to keep it that way. Here’s why…

“Over the years, Jeremy has learned to manage his condition with medical marijuana. Unfortunately since his arrest he has lost access to his medicine and is now experiencing heightened symptoms as a result.”

They can’t afford to let the sheeple believe they are in charge of their own health decisions.
