Reports have identified the suspect responsible for stabbing nine people at the Crossroads Center mall in St. Cloud, Minnesota as Dahir Adan, a recent immigrant from Somalia.
According to Ahmed Adan, the suspect’s father, his son immigrated to the United States 15 years ago. As AP reported:
Ahmed Adan told the Star Tribune of Minneapolis that police told him Saturday night that his son, Dahir A. Adan, died at Crossroads Center mall in St. Cloud… Ahmed Adan, who is Somali, says his son came to the U.S. 15 years ago and was was a student at St. Cloud Technical and Community College.
Between 2009 and 2013, while Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State, the U.S. permanently resettled 31,000 Somali migrants on green cards, according to data from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
As Secretary of State, Clinton was in charge of screening visas for admission, which some foreign nationals could then adjust to receive green cards.
In total, during Clinton’s time as Secretary of State, the U.S. resettled 680,000 migrants from Muslim nations.
Yet Clinton is now campaigning on the promise of further expanding Muslim immigration into the United States.
Center for Immigration Studies’ Steve Camarota has projected that — based on the minimum figures Clinton has proposed thus far — if she were elected president, the U.S. could permanently resettle nearly one million immigrants from the Muslim world during the first term of her presidency alone.
The fact that Dahir Adan was a child when he was reportedly admitted into the country seems to underscore a particular challenge of vetting foreign migrants that Sen. Jeff Sessions has previously highlighted. Specifically, Sessions has pointed out that the U.S. has no “effective method to screen” migrants for the possibility of “post-entry radicalization,” which is enabled by the importation of large numbers of people who hold anti-Western values.
Indeed, vetting means not simply keeping out people who currently have terror aspirations and already have direct ties to terror, but also keeping those out who — based on their support for Islamist ideology — would be candidates for terror, or whose children could become candidates for terror, or who hold values that are hostile to American values.
As Andrew McCarthy has explained:
Jihadism thrives when it has a support system of sharia-adherent Muslims. In Europe this means – as it would mean here – enclaves of assimilation-resistant Muslims… It is patently obvious that our security challenge is not just jihadists; it is the combination of jihadists and their support network of assimilation-resistant Muslims. Indeed, even if we could vet for all the currently active jihadists, it is from the assimilation-resistance Islamic communities that future “homegrown” jihadists will emerge – and that is apart from the material and moral support jihadists get from like-minded Islamists in these communities.
Many have argued that this is precisely what has happened in Minnesota.
Last year, filmmaker Ami Horowitz interviewed Muslim residents of the Cedar Riverside section of Minneapolis, many of whom said that they would prefer to live under Sharia law. One boy who was interviewed explained that he would rather live under Sharia law because it would promote safer communities: “Sharia law, it says that if you steal something, they cut off your hand,” the boy explained. “So, basically, [people] can leave their doors open. Nobody’s going to steal anything because Sharia is so tight.”
As CBS has reported, “The Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis is sometimes called ‘Little Mogadishu’” given that it is the “center of the nation’s largest concentration of Somalis.” CBS notes that the area is also “fertile ground for Islamic terrorist groups recruiting new fighters.”
As the Minneapolis Star Tribune has reported, a Congressional report found that “Minnesota leads the nation in would-be ISIL terrorists from U.S.”
“During the last two years, more than 20 Somali-Americans from Minnesota have left to fight alongside terrorists under the banner of ISIL,” a report from 2015 states.
A separate report from the Star Tribune writes:
No state in the country has provided more fresh young recruits to violent jihadist groups like Al-Shabab and, more recently, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Over the last decade, dozens of mostly young men have abandoned the relative comfort and security of life in the Twin Cities to fight and, in many instances, die, in faraway lands… the exodus of local men abroad, its impact on the families and the Twin Cities Somali-American community — the largest in the U.S. — has been profound.
Indeed, below is a list of some of the recent instances of Somali refugees who have beenimplicated in terrorism compiled by the Senate Immigration Subcommittee:
– On April 20, 2015, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, Abdurahman Yasin Daud was charged (along with six others) with conspiracy and attempt to provide material support to ISIS. Daud, a Somalian refugee who came to the United States as a child, and subsequently obtained a green card. Daud and another individual drove from Minnesota to San Diego to attempt to get passports, cross the border into Mexico, and fly to Syria in to join ISIS.
– On February 5, 2015, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, Abdinassir Mohamud Ibrahim was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for conspiring to provide material support to Al-Shabaab, a designated foreign terrorist organization, and for making a false statement in his immigration paperwork. Ibrahim is a native of Somalia who came to the United States as a refugee in 2007 at the age of 22 and subsequently obtained a green card. Ibrahim knowingly lied on his citizenship application and previously lied in his request for refugee status, by falsely claiming that he was of a member of the minority Awer clan in Somalia and subject to persecution by the majority Hawiye clan. Ibrahim was actually a member of the Hawiye clan and not subject to persecution. In fact, according to court documents, “Ibrahim’s family was famous . . . [and] [t]hrough his clan lineage, Ibrahim was related to known Somali terrorists[.]” Ibrahim also admitted he lied on his citizenship application by having previously lied on his refugee application by falsely claiming that he had not provided material support to a terrorist group, when he had in fact provided material support in the form of cash to an Al-Shabaab member.
– On January 29, 2015, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, a federal warrant was unsealed for the arrest of Liban Haji Mohamed for allegedly providing material support to Harakat Shabaab Al-Mujahidin, also known as Al-Shabaab and Al-Qaeda. Mohamed is a native of Somalia who sources indicate came to the United States as a refugee, obtained a green card, and subsequently applied for and received citizenship. He is believed to have left the United States on July 5, 2012, with the intent to join Al-Shabaab in East Africa. Mohamed previously lived in the Washington, D.C. area and worked as a cab driver, and is believed to have snuckacross the border to Mexico after being placed on the no-fly list. Carl Ghattas, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Washington, D.C. Field Office emphasized the importance of locating Mohamed, “because he has knowledge of the Washington, D.C. area’s infrastructure such as shopping areas, Metro, airports, and government buildings . . . [t]his makes him an asset to his terrorist associates who might plot attacks on U.S. soil.”
– On November 18, 2013, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, Issa Doreh was sentenced to ten years in prison for “conspiracy to provide material support to terrorist, conspiracy to provide material support to foreign terrorist organization, conspiracy to launder monetary instruments, and providing material support to foreign terrorist organization.” Doreh was admitted to the United States as a refugee from Somalia and subsequently obtained a green card and became a citizen. Doreh worked at a money transmitting business that was at the center of the conspiracy, which also involved Ahmed Nasir Taalil Mohamud.
Yet, aside from just terrorism, our current immigration policy with Somalia also seems to have imported certain views and values that are antithetical to Western values.
For instance, the prevalence rate of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) for women and between the ages of 15 and 49 is 98 percent in Somalia. The Population Reference Bureau estimates there are more than 75,000 women and girls at risk of FGM in the United States due solely to Somali immigration. In Minnesota, there are over 44,293 U.S. women and girls at risk of undergoing the barbaric, misogynistic, and anti-Western practice.
Moreover, in Somalia, homosexuality can be punishable by death. As the Washington Posthas reported, “The penal code stipulates prison, but in some southern regions, Islamic courts have imposed Sharia law and the death penalty.”
Between 2001 and 2014, the U.S. has permanently resettled 82,759 Somali nationals throughout the United States on green cards.
However, aside from Donald Trump, Republican leadership has taken little to no action to curb the inflow of Muslim migration.
For instance, earlier this year, Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly asked Speaker Ryan specifically about the Somali refugee crisis in Minnesota.
“We have a Somali problem up in Minneapolis-St. Paul,” O’Reilly told Ryan. “[We] have a problem there and those are refugees from Somalia. And if, God forbid, some refugee comes in and blows people up, it’s going to be grisly.”
Ryan replied by claiming that he had passed a bill to pause this refugee program. Ryan said: “Right. Right. That’s why– just so you know that’s why we passed a bill pausing this refugee program, because we don’t think the refugee program works. That’s why we don’t want it to continue right now.”
However, Ryan’s declaration was demonstrably false. The House bill Ryan was referring to did not in any way pause the Somali refugee program. As NumbersUSA’s Rosemary Jenks explained, the House bill championed by Ryan would “not have affected the Somali refugee program at all.” In fact, Jenks explained that “the bill the House passed would in no way pause the refugee program. They had the option of taking up the Babin bill, which would have paused the refugee program, but they refused to do that.”
Indeed, both Ryan and Clinton have supported continuing — and even expanding — Muslim migration into the United States.
Ryan, who leads the pro-Islamic migration wing of the Republican Party, has repeatedly ruled out the possibility of curbing Muslim migration and has frequently chastised his party’s presumptive nominee for advocating policies to reduce immigration — at times, Ryan has even echoed Clinton’s rhetoric in his efforts to denounce Trump and Trump’s proposals.
Every politician does all they can to destroy this country, and Americans never seem to catch on, or don’t want to.
The election cycle is similar to giving a crying baby a pacifier. When the population starts crying, you just have to tell them voting will change everything, and give them another lying candidate to place their faith in, and that shuts them up for a few more years.
