Video of massive Florida ‘dinosaur’ gator creates buzz

News 6

LAKELAND, Fla. – And you thought dinosaurs were extinct.

Video of a massive alligator spotted in Lakeland was posted to Facebook on Sunday, raising the eyebrows of many.

Kim Joiner told News 6 that she captured the video at the Polk Nature Discovery Center.

“It looks like a dinosaur,” News 6 anchor Justin Warmoth said.

“Is that real?” News 6 anchor Kirstin O’Connor asked upon first viewing the video.

“Yes, it’s real,” Joiner told News 6 social media producer Shannon McLellan.

Joiner estimated the gator to be at least 12 feet long. When asked about the beast’s weight, Joiner said, “Huge!”

“It seems too big to be real. That’s crazy,” O’Connor said.

“Nature at its best,” Joiner posted on Facebook.

Perhaps it should have said, “Nature is a beast.”

Last year, a gigantic gator roaming a Lakeland golf course created headlines after a 10-year-old boy snapped photos of the creature.

  1. I want one!

I’ll name him Fido, build him a nice dog house.. and put up the signs beware of my “dog”
see if any pigs wanna come shoot my “dog”

  2. Well….I have a dinosaur footprint the size of a football field on my back forty.
My neighbor has a teradactyl outprint fossil the size of six football fields square.

Oh… I can also see Russia from my back yard.

    Believe it or not.

  3. I have seen bigger here in the southwest corner of Madison county north Alabama at Blackwell swamp and that was back in the late 1980s when I used to fish there for big mouth bass, the gator had to be 18ft at least if not bigger, how much has it grown in 30 years?? They were released in the area to control the beaver population. This is on Wheeler Wild Life Refuse and is a bird sanctuary for migrating geese, ducks, ect and gators eat them too.

  4. What choo talkin’ about, Willis? That was just Hillary out for a morning stroll before make up!

    “That was good, crispy duck!”
