A giant crucifix dedicated to Pope John Paul II ahead of his canonisation collapses in northern Italy killing a 21-year-old man.

Full Story:

A young man was killed in northern Italy on Thursdaywhen a 600-kg statue erected in honour of Pope John Paul II collapsed and crushed him.

The incident happened just three days before the former pope will be made saint in a grand ceremony in the Vatican.

According to local media reports a group of youths was attending a pre-canonisation ceremony underneath the 30-metre-high statue when it collapsed.

The 21-year-old man, identified as Marco Gusmini, was crushed by the falling statue and died instantly, Italian media reported. Another man needing medical care was taken to the hospital.

The curved statue in the Alpine town of Cevo in the province of Brescia, was installed in 2005 to commemorate John Paul’s visit to the area in 1998. It was designed by sculptor Enrico Job.

    1. Good point, NC! The term “saint” in the Holy Bible refers to
those of us who have believed the Gospel and placed their
faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

Doesn’t mean we are perfect by any means, just saints of the
Lord. And one day we will “go marching in” as the old song
      says.

And we saints don’t pray to Mary!!!!!!!

  1. My Fellow Americans,

JD – US Marines – You gotta know when to say “Wow!!”,… can’t be just another coincidence!
