A small but significant test for General Kelly, and the Trump administration in general has emerged. They will be asked to stand strong against the weasels in the Senate who talk out of both sides of their mouths. Admittedly, that does account for the majority of the members on one issue or another and in this instance it’s American jobs. It may not be easy as the fix is already in, the commitment to give away 66,000 of our jobs to foreigners has already been made by Congress. Kelly will be facing off against a group of thirty-one Senators who have sided with the deep pockets of big business and lobbyists against what’s best for the citizens they supposedly represent.
The issue is being pressed by the group in the form of a request for the replacement of H-2B visas, the unskilled equivalent of the high tech American job killing H-1B visas. Disappointingly, the swamp vermin making the request are primarily Senate Republicans, by a two to one margin, 21 to 10. The American people aren’t their financial sponsors or political enablers, therefore our interests, including our right to work in our own country, will not be represented.
The sellout Senators are trying to squeeze out every possible opportunity to hire a foreigner instead of an American by asking that an estimated 5,000 unused visas be made available for reissue, as the cap of 66,000 per year has nearly been reached. Once that happens they’ll have to seek other options, including the unthinkable, hiring Americans for American jobs. That would mean being forced to pay a reasonable wage and provide benefits. It could then lead to unrest among their foreign slave labor who are being paid less. It’s the kind of problem they don’t need; hiring Americans must be avoided at all costs.
Just three months ago, following the election and the American people’s uprising, the GOP leadership cut the allotment they had inflated to 264,000 back down to the customary point of 66,000. They’re asking that the number of unused visas for the first six months be calculated and used to extrapolate out estimates for the second half, and that they be reissued accordingly.
North Carolina Republican Thom Tillis is leading the way, making the announcement on March 6th. He’s obtained what he feels is sufficient cover, thirty co-sponsors to provide the needed insulation from the American people. He’s wrong. While he and his cohorts don’t care about getting Americans back to work, the American people do. 5,000 jobs is nothing to be dismissed as insignificant. His announcement stated:
Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC), Mark Warner (D-VA) and a bipartisan group of 29 other senators sent a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly, outlining concerns that the H-2B visa statutory cap will be reached soon. The Senators requested the Department of Homeland Security to conduct an audit to determine the number of unused visas during the first half of the fiscal year, and also requested that any unused visas be provided to eligible businesses that have been unable to secure an adequate number of workers due to the cap.
In 2015, after previously announcing that the statutory cap had been reached, [the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services agency] determined that more than 5,000 unused visas were available. Soon thereafter, the agency began accepting applications from businesses still hoping to hire workers through the program. With that in mind, we respectfully request that your office conduct an immediate audit of the number of unused visas from the first half of the fiscal year and project the likely usage rate for the second half of the fiscal year … As with prior practice, any unused visas should be provided to eligible businesses that have been unable to secure an adequate number of workers due to the cap.
We understand that when USCIS deems the cap to be reached, it accounts for a certain number of withdrawals, denials, and revocations. It is very important, however, that as soon as it has information on the actual number of visas issued, USCIS immediately makes any unused visas available to seasonal businesses.
