5 Year Old Suspended for “Gun Gesture” Until His Awesome Dad Harasses School into Overturning It

A five year old boy terrorized a school in Gaston County, North Carolina when he made a “gun gesture” with his hand during a playground game of “army”.

The kindergartner was punished with a one day, in-school suspension for making the threatening gesture.

Lots of parents send their kids off to school and turn their kids over to the staff there, never giving it a second thought. If the teacher or an administrator hands down a punishment, it’s simply accepted.  Rare are the parents who actually advocate for their children.

For many families in this situation, the boy would have submitted to the suspension and that would have been the end of it. Luckily for his son, David Hendrix is not just any dad.

Looking to resolve the issue, Hendrix told WBTV that he met with the school principal to plead his case. At first, the school didn’t budge, according to Hendrix. But Hendrix wasn’t giving up.

“I requested an immediate meeting that night with him myself and the school board, at their pleasure, anytime that night. And at that point they decided it was not worth the effort, not worth the headache and dropped everything right then and there,” Hendrix said.   (source)

It should be noted that in the Pinewood Elementary School handbook, making a ‘gun gesture’ with your hand is not mentioned or assigned a punishment. And, for crying out loud, it shouldn’t be!  How wimpy are we when a 5 year old pointing a finger at someone is considered threatening enough to require punishment? What will all of these coddled children do one day when they encounter an actual threat to their safety when they’ve been programmed to find GESTURES to be terrifying?

  1. The school system is so sad these days. Great for David Hendrix and his son, though. Keep up the fight and never give them an inch.

  2. Quit calling these Government Indoctrination Facilities a School. There are no public schools anymore and the sooner folks understand that the better. These are training centers for blind obedience and that’s all!

  3. Yes, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is just more proof that the insane are running the asylum.

I’m glad that Mr. Hendrix didn’t back down, it shows that many out there are so fed up, and they will not put up with this out of control crap.

ARF, you are right. Every time the tyrant rears it ugly head, and tries to take another victim down, it just backfires and wakes up more and more people. These are positive developments! 🙂

  4. David you are most welcome. Anything to do with guns in this country is being attacked, viciously. Children biting a pop-tart into the shape of a gun, or a teenagers t-shirt is becoming an out of control issue.

When we were children, kids played cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, etc. and there were never any pansy grown ups, making a big deal about it.

“Leaders” on every level are going after the second article of our constitution at an aggressive pace. It’s not working very well, so they have to drill it into the young minds that guns are a bad thing, and only the police should have them to “protect us”.

The founders wrote the 2nd Amendment to make clear that it is our RIGHT to keep and bear arms, not for hunting, but to protect ourselves from an out of control tyrannical government.

We shouldn’t be brainwashing our children that making a gesture with your hand should be enough to make someone wet themselves. It doesn’t stop with guns either. Children are being punished for kissing a little girl on the hand or for hugging! When will this insanity end.
