A 9-year-old girl died after she was attacked by a pit bull in the backyard of a Long Island home Sunday morning.
According to Nassau Police, a 911 call came in at 10:30 a.m. reporting the dog attack at a home on Holland Avenue in Elmont. When two Fifth Precinct officers entered the backyard, they observed a male pit bull attacking the young girl, police said.
A third officer walked through the house, opened the back door and the pit bull stopped its attack on the girl and charged toward that officer, who then fired several rounds, killing the dog, police said.
The child, was visiting the Elmont home at the time of the attack, was transported to Franklin Hospital, where she was admitted in critical condition, but she died from her injuries at 1:42 p.m. Police are withholding the name of the girl pending notification of family.
No criminal charges will be filed in relation to the dog attack, but the pit bull’s owner, 29-year-old Carlyle Arnold was arrested at the scene for violating an order of protection, police said.
In 2014, there were 42 dog bite-related deaths in the United States, according to DogsBite.org. Pit bulls, who make up about 6 percent of the total dog population in the country, were involved in 64 percent of those deaths.
so just how long was this dog allowed to attack this child anyways?
Could not have been long. Cops always show up within a few seconds, right?
Actually, it’s out of character for them not to have shot the dog and the girl at the same time.
BAN PIT BULLS! They are killing more people than guns.
