Americans Not In The Labor Force Soar To Record 94.7 Million, Surge By 664,000 In One Month

Zero Hedge – by Tyler Durden

So much for that much anticipated rebound in the participation rate. After it had managed to rise for 5 months in a row through March, hitting the highest level in one year, the disenchantment with working has returned, and the labor force participation rate promptly slumped in both April and May, sliding 0.4% in the past two months to 62.60%, just shy of its 35 year low of 62.4% hit last October. This can be seen in the surge of Americans who are no longer in the labor force, who spiked by 664,000 in May, hitting an all time high of 94.7 million. As a result of this the US labor force shrank by over 400,000 to 158,466K, down from 158,924K a month ago, and helped the unemployment rate tumble to 4.7%, the lowest level since 2007.

Adding the number of unemployed workers to the people not in the labor force, there are now over 102 million Americans who are either unemployment or no longer looking for work.

  1. Well I guess these people should be armed.
Arm the homeless and the 100 million out of work.
Maybe then they might get the message.
The truth never goes out of style.

  2. People have five kids and they’re making 800 a month on the dole, why work. This is the problem . Free room and board free food, free this, free that,it’s a smorgasborg of free .

    1. Painting with a broad brush there, aren’t you Mark?
There are a hundred million of our people, many formerly of the middle class, who cannot get a job because there are no jobs. Our enemies want a third of our population under the rug under the pretense that they are not working because they do not want to. And a lot of them, Mark, are our age, from our generation, people who have worked all their lives. You might be surprised at how many go hungry, and I tell you I know this for a fact because they won’t get food stamps because the concept is inconceivable to them.
You know what they have done to our country with NAFTA, CAFTA, and GATT.
The Bernieites are about a quarter of the 36% that make up the voting population. Our people, who are out of work and counting on us not to fall for the enemy propaganda and condemn them, make up 33% of our total population. The Rush Limbaughites that peddle this bullshit make up about half of the 36% who confirm the treason with votes.
Don’t believe anything these people tell you until you see the film crews with Donald Trump in the tent cities where the most of our people are receiving the worst treatment.

      1. The ones I’m talking about are mainly immigrants or illegals, they don’t give a damn, never will, never have. There are some lazy ass Americans out there too. I used to be one of them for a couple of years.

      2. When the Feds caged my husband and brother in law for not filing on their labor, my dumb ass sister in law got every benefit under the sun. She used the reasoning that, if they had him, she should take from the gov. I wouldn’t touch that with a ten foot pole. 2 wrongs never make a right. I learned to make due with less, I gardened, and canned. Eff the gov. No one needs them.
This miserable excuse for a disguised government, which is nothing but a freakin corporation since its inception has been here to crush the people from day one. Jobs? They have been shipping them out of this country faster than they can fill their pockets.

  3. I once had a homeless man tell me that he had given up because the pay is low and the taxes are high everywhere, that it wouldn’t be enough to pay for housing, food, bills and transportation .So he finds it easier to live on the streets.

  4. I quit my job after 12 yrs.

Better to be broke & living in OR than working & waiting for death in L.A.
