‘Anti-Iran sanctions benefit Israelis, Saudis’

Israel and Saudi Arabia are benefiting from sanctions imposed by the West against Iran and they do not want a deal between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany over Tehran’s nuclear energy program, says Don DeBar, an American anti-war activist and radio host.

US Secretary of State John Kerry held a classified meeting with the Senate Banking Committee on Wednesday to convince US lawmakers that any new sanctions against Iran would be viewed as “bad faith” and can “destroy the ability to” reach an agreement over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

The White House has also warned Congress that imposing new sanctions on Iran would be a “march to war” and that “the American people do not want a march to war.”

Speaking with reporters during a White House briefing on Thursday, US President Barack Obama also called on Congress not to impose any new sanctions on Iran.

Meanwhile, Israel continues to lobby Congress for new anti-Iran sanctions while it calls a possible deal between Iran and the P5+1 a “catastrophic” and “very bad deal.”

Israel’s Economy and Trade Minister, Naftali Bennett, is currently in Washington, actively lobbying US lawmakers to impose more sanctions on Iran.

Don DeBar said in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday that all sides involved in talks over Iran’s nuclear energy program know that Tehran is not pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear program and “the real question is removing the sanctions and entering into normal commercial relationships and normal political relationships with Iran.”

“Those that tend to lose in that scenario are those who are making money now and those who tend to win are those who will generally win in the open market when you do normal commercial relations,” said Don DeBar.

“Certain players right now, however, who’re doing well in the black market will not [win]. So, they’re attempting to thwart this and then the regional rivalry that exists between Iran and the Saudis, at least in the eyes of the Saudis, and Iran and Israel, in the eyes of the Israelis, also would like this not to happen,” he added.
