Lawmakers from Utah are backing a public lands bill they say will scale back roughly 660 million acres owned by the federal government to balance conservation with economic development in their state.

A federal criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court of Oregon reveals new, disturbing details about an ongoing wildlife refuge standoff in Oregon that has stretched more than three weeks now and already left one dead.

The document — which was filed Tuesday and unsealed Wednesday — accuses Ammon Bundy and the group he led of intimidating and interrupting life in Eastern Oregon for months before they finally stormed the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, destroyed fences and parked vehicles along the entrance of the preserve.

With 11 militants now arrested – including their leader, Ammon Bundy – and another dead, federal agents are trying to get the remaining occupiers of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge to leave, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting.

The widow of a disgraced Illinois police officer who staged his suicide to appear he was gunned down in the line of duty, sparking an intensive manhunt, was indicted Wednesday on charges of assisting her husband in siphoning money from a youth program.

Melodie Gliniewicz, 51, turned herself in at the Lake County Sheriff’s Office when she learned of the grand jury indictment, said Detective Christopher Covelli, a sheriff’s office spokesman. Concepcion Picciotto, a homeless anti-war protester has died at age 80, after occupying an area outside the white house for over 30 years. Ms. Picciotto is a Spanish immigrant, who is known by many as “Connie” or “Conchita.”

She began the longest running political protest in US history out front of the White House in 1981. The FBI has arrested a 23-year-old Wisconsin man for allegedly plotting a mass shooting at a Masonic center in Milwaukee.

The FBI was alerted to Samy Mohamed Hamzeh in September, when he was formulating a plan to attack Israeli soldiers and citizens living in the West Bank, according to FBI officials. Hamzeh, however, abandoned those plans when he realized it wasn’t practical for him to make the journey.
