It is perceived wisdom throughout the Western world – particularly America – that the dropping of two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was “necessary” to end the war with Japan. Printed throughout textbooks in the post-war world, the understanding is that, had these targets not been struck, the war would have waged on indefinitely, with potentially untold American soldier and Japanese civilian deaths.

As the world commemorates the 68th anniversary of the attacks, however, it is important to take a step back and view the catastrophic event not through the prism of propaganda and mythologizing, but instead through the lens of historical scrutiny. A secretive U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration unit is funneling information from intelligence intercepts, wiretaps, informants and a massive database of telephone records to authorities across the nation to help them launch criminal investigations of Americans.

In another case of ‘conspiracy’ confirmed as reality, US regulators are now revealing various documents and call logs detailing initiatives by the world’s mega banks to rig interest rates in order to rake in millions at the expense of legitimate businesses and pension funds.

And once again, the media is acting as if this revelation is truly inconceivable and unexpected. As it turns out, however, reports now confirm what we have known for decades: that the mega banks are in fact gutting the economy in order to squeeze as many greenbacks as possible from the last breathe of our financial infrastructure. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said late Sunday that chemicals were leaking from a train carrying flammable and corrosive materials that derailed Sunday afternoon and forced the evacuation of around 100 homes.

The evacuated homes were within one mile of the derailment and remained empty as of Monday. 55% of Americans believe that the drug, that has never been a primary cause of death (1997-2005) should be legalized.

WASHINGTON — The FBI gave its informants permission to break the law at least 5,658 times in a single year, according to newly disclosed documents that show just how often the nation’s top law enforcement agency enlists criminals to help it battle crime.

The U.S. Justice Department ordered the FBI to begin tracking crimes by its informants more than a decade ago, after the agency admitted that its agents had allowed Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger to operate a brutal crime ring in exchange for information about the Mafia. An Illinois sheriff’s team is crisscrossing the Chicago suburbs in an effort to seize guns from thousands of people whose right to own a firearm has been revoked, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The United States Court of Appeals for the third circuit will be holding a full-hearing on an important case challenging gun laws in New Jersey; specifically the court will hear a case challenging the NJ gun law that requires Americans provide “justifiable-need” to government to own a handgun.

A three judge panel in the US Court of Appeals for the third circuit affirmed a prior court decision ruling by a 2-1 vote in favor of the NJ gun law requiring residents give justifiable-need to own a gun. ExxonMobil owes more than $104 million to New York City for poisoning the groundwater with the gasoline additive MTBE, the 2nd Circuit ruled.
