Community activists on Chicago’s Southeast Side are always on the lookout for signs of new pollution, dumping or other threats to the environment and quality of life in this heavily industrialized swath of the city.

In recent years community opposition helped torpedoproposals for a coal gasification plant, a police shooting range and new landfills.   Continue reading “First it was Detroit, now ‘PetKoch’ piling up in Chicago”

As more details continue to surface, the NYPD’s activities are beginning to make the NSA’s surveillance programs look like the paragon of restraint. We’ve already detailed how the NYPD (with help from a former CIA official) placed entire mosques under surveillance and infiltrated the Occupy movement.

Having effectively neutered the Handschu guidelines in 2003 (which placed severe restrictions on monitoring political activity), the NYPD was free to surveill all sorts of non-criminal, politically-focused gatherings.   Continue reading “The NYPD: Making New York Safer By Spying On Bicyclists, Relief Efforts And Republicans”

A Nanuet man said last year that he was “anxious to start killing various public officials” was sentenced Wednesday to 15 months in federal prison.

Lawrence Mulqueen has already served around 8 months of the sentence, having been incarcerated since his arrest in February, when prosecutors said that he wrote on his Facebook page that he wanted “all followers of President Barack Obama dead,” calling them “traitor scum” and declaring “death to them all.”   Continue reading “Lawrence Mulqueen gets 15 months after making threats against public officials”

NASHUA – When Shannon “Bear” Cothran was threatened by a knife-wielding robber on Monday morning, he didn’t think twice about what to do.

New Jersey –-(Ammoland.com)- The weekend of October 11-13, 2013 I attended the Family Research Council’s Values Voter Summit at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington D.C.

As I prepared to leave my home in New Jersey early that Friday morning, I began the process of cleaning out the car and loading up my packed bags. With my suitcase, garment bag, and laptop case safely secured, I reversed out of my driveway and began my three and a half hour journey to the nation’s capital.   Continue reading “How I Almost Became a Felon”

Charlotte, NC –-(Ammoland.com)-  As previously reported, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners has been considering a misguided resolution calling upon the Michigan Legislature and Governor Rick Snyder (R) to repeal Michigan’s “Stand Your Ground” law, and to create additional regulations that would further restrict your Second Amendment rights and inherent right to self-defense.

While consideration of this ordinance was postponed at their last meeting, it is scheduled to be considered at their next meeting on Wednesday, October 16.   Continue reading “Michigan Washtenaw County Board to Consider Anti-Self-Defense Ordinance Wednesday”

Wisconsin –-(Ammoland.com)- Greetings in freedom!

First, a huge thank-you to all of you who picked up a phone or sent an email to your legislators last week.

Government exists by the consent of the governed (you and I) it is to be of the people, by the people, for the people. Its a shame we can’t just do our moral, civic duty.. pay attention to candidates, believe their promises, vote on election day, and count on our elected officials to represent the views THEY said they held and that we sent them to Madison to act upon.   Continue reading “Wisconsin Carry Important Update! At 6 AM, the sky outside my apartment is still purple-black. It’s too early. I stagger out of bed and stand under a scalding jet of water in the shower, trying to remember where I’ve been, where I am, and where I need to be. Oklahoma. Austin. Houston. In less than eight hours I have to climb a stage and tell a roomful of strangers my story. As far as stories go, it’s pretty interesting, I guess. It’s got thrills, heartbreak, what technically counts as crime, and even a little bit of vindication. But telling it wears me out. Living through it was more than enough.   Continue reading “My Life as a Convicted Gun Owner Who Did Nothing Wrong”
