The Organic Prepper

When disaster seems imminent, there’s one vital decision that preppers have to make: bug in or bug out?  The lyrics from the chorus of a song by The Clash sums it up – you’ve got trouble either way,  but one way will be worse than the other.

Because this song is now stuck in my head, I thought it should be stuck in your head, too.   Continue reading “Should I Stay or Should I Go?”

One day, you’re just moving through life with everyone else in your office or at your church, and then, for whatever reason, the reality of how tenuous our current lifestyle is, hits you squarely between the eyes.  You realize that electricity and grocery stores and transportation are all things that you’ve been taking for granted and that these things could actually disappear. Maybe you’re concerned about a natural disaster. Perhaps you saw something on the evening news. It could even be a job loss that puts these things out of reach.   Continue reading “How to Start Prepping in 3 Easy Steps”

Chipotle GMO Ban Meets Media Propaganda Damage ControlNutritional Anarchy

Last week, folks who are particular about what they eat rejoiced that there was finally a place that they could go get a taco without being exposed to genetically modified organisms.  Chipotle, the popular Mexican fast food chain, announced that their menu would be free of GMOs.

In an immediate paroxysm of denial, the corporate-funded media immediately went about bashing Chipotle for the company’s decision to provide consumers with a GMO-free option to the Big Agri/Big Food offerings out there.   Continue reading “Chipotle Bans GMOs; Media Goes into Full Propaganda Damage Control Mode”

I’m happy to announce that The Pantry Primer: A Prepper’s Guide to Whole Food on a Half-Price Budget is now available on Amazon!

Here’s How This Edition is Different from the Original Version

The first book was our personal story about building a pantry, based on the blog posts that I wrote throughout the journey.  Readers had asked that I put all of the information together in one place, and the original version of The Pantry Primer was born.   Continue reading “The Second Edition of The Pantry Primer is Now Available”

One of my favorite parts of spring is scrubbing down the entire house, throwing open the windows so the breeze can come through, and hanging rugs and bedding outside.  Maybe it’s weird but I just love spring cleaning. However, what I don’t love is the expensive, chemical-laden cleaning products from the store.  That’s why I spend some time making my own, from simple, non-toxic ingredients. I order most of my basic supplies.

Many of the chemicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis never leave our bodies, but accumulate in fat and bone marrow.  There’s little oversight and testing on those chemicals.  We’re living in a toxic civilization that seems sparkling clean and sanitary, but is actually poisoning us.   Continue reading “The Cheapskate’s Guide to Making Cleaning Products That Won’t Kill You”

Denial might be a river in Venezuela.

For the past year, the government has been trying to sugar coat the economic demise of the country, and they’re continuing the propaganda with the new electricity rationing program that they’ve instituted. If you think it’s because of the socialist government’s financial collapse, you’re being ridiculous. It’s because they care about climate change. Vice President Jorge Arreaza said so.   Continue reading “Case Study in Collapse Propaganda: Venezuela is Now Rationing Electricity”

time to go against the grainNutritional Anarchy

I really hate food labels, food pyramids, the USDA, and the FDA.

All of the stuff that they say are good for you are bad for you. And the things they say are bad for you are actually good for you.

Here’s why: of course, it all boils down to money. As usual.   Continue reading “Got Chronic Health Issues? Maybe It’s Time to Go Against the Grain”

Stories continually coming out of public schools illustrate time and again that our school lunches are “bad,” but this story makes Michelle Obama’s school lunch program look like a fancy dinner at a four-star restaurant.

After a determination made by someone given the title “Child Nutrition Supervisor” and the school’s cafeteria managers who performed “tests,” a decision was made to serve school children six-year-old pork in Hawkins County, Tennessee.   Continue reading “Public School “Child Nutrition Supervisor” Served Students Reeking, Six-Year-Old Pork”

There’s a distinct pattern when society breaks down, and as our society becomes more desperate, poverty-stricken, and lacking of moral compass, this trend will become more obvious. Note that the “lacking of moral compass” part doesn’t just refer to the thugs rioting and looting, but also to the cops who think that their badges give them permission to behave like street thugs, too.   Continue reading “Civil Unrest and Riots: Why You MUST Be Armed to be Truly Prepared”

Congress Wants to Put Artisanal Soap Makers Out of Business for Your SafetyNutritional Anarchy

You use HANDMADE SOAP?????

But how will you get your daily dose of cancer-causing parabens? Your hormone-disrupting substances?   Continue reading “Congress Wants to Put Artisanal Soap Makers Out of Business for Your Safety”

Home of restrictive gun laws.  Liberal enclaves like Los Angelos and Hollywood. That terrible, four-year drought. Feinstein and Pelosi.

Not great qualities for a state, I have to admit.

I can’t tell you how many times people have blithely suggested that I move. Or that they hold close the fervent wish that our state should break off with the next earthquake and fall into the ocean. Or that they lump every single Californian in with the Obama-loving, gum-chewing, impractical folks that are always the ones representing us on TV.   Continue reading “In Defense of California: Stop Wishing We’d Fall into the Ocean and Die”

Gastrointestinal upsets have been sweeping the country this spring.

First, there was an outbreak of drug-resistant shigellosis. This bacterial infection is also known as “Montezuma’s revenge” or “traveler’s diarrhea.”  It usually affects people visiting Third World destinations and is caused by drinking water that hasn’t been properly purified. This version has hit Americans in California, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania, and 90% of the cases have not responded to the normal treatment of an antibiotic called Cipro.  The symptoms are watery or bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever and fatigue.  While it will eventually go away without treatment, most of the time doctors prescribe antibiotics to speed recovery.   Continue reading “6 Natural Remedies for Vomiting and Diarrhea”

In the past couple of years, it seems that one American city after another has faced a water disaster when municipal supplies have become tainted. West Virginia and Ohio both faced water emergencies in 2014.

Now, the city of Nibley, Utah has issued an order to residents not to use the water from their taps due to a foul odor caused by contamination.   Continue reading “Another American Water Emergency: Utah Municipal Water Supply Tainted by Chemical Spill”

elmo is a whoreNutritional Anarchy

Everyone loves Elmo, that cute furry little muppet spokesperson for the pre-school set. But there’s a deep, dark secret behind his adorable visage.

I hate to break it to you, but Elmo is a whore. He’s being pimped out.

Harsh, right?  Well, prostitution is the act of selling oneself for money.  And Elmo is now the cutest little spokesperson around for pro-vaccine propaganda. Watch the following video right from the Sesame Street corner. Keep a barf bag handy.   Continue reading “Elmo Is a Corporate Whore”

A 2014 report on jobs showed some alarming statistics:  1 in 5 Americans have lost their jobs over the past five years and remained unemployed. The US economy is free-falling, and the middle class is taking the hit.

Unless you live in a neighborhood of rainbows and unicorns, it’s a good bet that this has happened to either your family or someone you know.  Sometimes the lay-off is expected, as you see your company’s profits dwindling. Other times, it is completely out of the blue when you get called into the managers office and handed your walking papers.   Continue reading “8 Steps to Surviving a Job Loss”

Surgical Removal of Body Parts is Sane But Eating Healthy is CrazyNutritional Anarchy

I think it’s really time for America to rethink what makes someone a positive example of taking charge of one’s health.

For example, many of us avoid fluoridated tap water and GMOs, and people think we’re nuts.

Angelina Jolie has her breasts and female reproductive parts removed and she’s a freakin’ national hero for preventative health care.  They’re calling the action “future-proofing against cancer.”   Continue reading ““Future-Proofing”: Where Surgical Removal of Body Parts is Sane, But Eating Healthy is Crazy”

If you’re involved in the preparedness lifestyle, you’re probably into planning. Most likely, you research and study the excellent preparedness strategies put out by experts. Whether we prepare for incidents small or large, we all ponder what we’d do if something world-as-we-know-it-ending went down.

The trouble is, a lot of the plans that get made are more likely  to get you killed than to save you. And people post these plans online, then new preppers read them and think, “Wow, what a great idea.”   Continue reading “12 Bad Strategies That Will Get Preppers Killed”

Sometimes, warning labels concern me.

I mean, who inspired the label on blow dryers that points out the device should not be used in the shower? And what would even be the point, barring electrocution? Why would you dry your hair while the water is spraying you?

And are there actually people who need to be cautioned not to light a candle until they remove it from the package?   Continue reading “Darwin Weeps: Warning Labels and Technology Render the Survival Mindset Obsolete”

A hip and trendy new restaurant in New York City has the rich folks all excited. The restaurant, called wastED, serves the things that most people throw out.

New GMO Produce Is Better For You Than Natural CounterpartsNutritional Anarchy

Big Biotech/Agri companies like Monsanto and Del Monte are becoming increasingly desperate to sell us on their tainted goods.

Now, not only are they averring that genetically modified crops are not harmful, but that they are actually BETTER for you than non-modified foods.

A new pineapple is being rolled out by Del Monte. It’s pink and apparently it will keep you from getting cancer.   Continue reading “Big Agri Spin Doctors: New GMO Produce Is Better For You Than Natural Counterparts”
