One of the most powerful tools in the arsenal of the grass roots food freedom fight is social media.  Google, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and many more networks allow people to instantly connect and provide a platform for information to be passed on exponentially. Facebook and Google are the two biggest websites in the entire world, and their reach is nearly unlimited.   Continue reading “Monsanto Declares a Sneaky Social Media War Against Protesters”

The establishment has made no secret of the fact that they are not very impressed with Adam Kokesh’s planned Open Carry March on Washington DC this coming July 4.

But yesterday the situation devolved to a new low when Kokesh was arrested for….doing nothing.

The controversial talk-radio host of Adam Vs. the Man has been made a political prisoner.   Continue reading “Adam Kokesh is a Political Prisoner”

Monsanto made a weak strike back in the mainstream media against the burgeoning grass roots movement that is trying to bring the leviathan company down.

Monsanto is attempting to marginalize opponents while polishing their own dingy reputation.  “There is this strange kind of reverse elitism: If I’m going to do this, then everything else shouldn’t exist,” said Monsanto CEO Hugh Grant. “There is space in the supermarket shelf for all of us.”   Continue reading “Monsanto Hides Behind Cries of ‘Elitist’ in Response to Tremendous Global Social Media Movement and Impending Day of Protest”

Have you ever read about a survival scenario where a kidnapping victim, a forgotten prisoner,  or lost hiker was forced to choke down insects in order to survive?  Did it sound repulsive? Demeaning? Even sub-human?

Making a trip to the grocery store these days is like running a gauntlet.  From one side you are assaulted by food-like substances in brightly labeled packages, some even touting exaggerated health benefits from the toxins within.  From the other side, you are gouged and poked by cleverly marketed “natural” foods that are 4 times the price of conventional foods.  When you change directions to avoid one onslaught, you are immediately attacked by the other.   Continue reading “20 Ways to Build a Whole Food Kitchen on a Half Price Budget”

From time to time, I have been highly annoyed with the school that my daughter attends.  I have set up meetings with teachers, principals, and administrators.  I have brought in paperwork and pleaded my case on a variety of topics. I have made scathing remarks.  Once, I even had the utter audacity to argue a point with the principal with my daughter right there in the room, which is apparently a no-no because it “undermined the authority of the principal”.   Continue reading “Desensitization Training: Police Practice Fighting “Angry Parents””

Has the GMO Food and Drug Pushers Administration sent forth another volley in their war on whole foods and self-sufficiency?

We all know that the FDA is present to further the agendas of Big Food and Big Agri as opposed to protecting the best interests of consumers, and rumor has it that their most recent antic is a crackdown on LDS canneries.   Continue reading “Is the FDA Protecting the Public from Self-Sufficiency and Whole Foods with LDS Cannery Crackdown?”

Much has been written about building a preparedness pantry, but not quite as much information is available about a whole-foods version of that pantry.

We build food stockpiles for many reasons:

  • To combat the weekly increase in the price of food
  • To be ready for unforeseen disasters that preclude us being able to “run to the store” (That disaster could be anything from a paralyzing storm to a power outage to martial law ala Boston)
  • To be prepared for possible food shortages
  • To make life easier because you never have to run to the store for “just one thing”
  • To return to our roots and prepare for the winter in a way similar to our ancestors   Continue reading “A Peek into an Organic Prepper’s Pantry”

Sometimes I think that the next Revolutionary War will take place in a vegetable garden.

Instead of bullets, there will be seeds.  Instead of chemical warfare, there will be rainwater, carefully collected from the gutters of the house. Instead of soldiers in body armor and helmets, there will be back yard rebels, with bare feet, cut-off jean shorts, and wide-brimmed hats.  Instead of death, there will be life, sustained by a harvest of home-grown produce.  Children will be witness to these battles, but instead of being traumatized, they will be happy, grimy, and healthy, as they learn about the miracles that take place in a little plot of land or pot of dirt.   Continue reading “Garden Rebels: 10 Ways to Sow Revolution in Your Back Yard”

President Obama gave the commencement address at Ohio State University yesterday, May 5.  He took that opportunity to try and get a message across to the new graduates:

Unfortunately, you’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems. Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They’ll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave, and creative, and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can’t be trusted.   Continue reading “Damage Control? The Environmental Working Group has released its 2013 list of The Dirty Dozen Plus and The Clean Fifteen.

The suggestions given by EWG are based strictly on the levels of contamination from pesticide.  The Clean 15 list does contain items that are potentially genetically modified, so you must be aware of this fact when shopping, as I recommend strict avoidance of GMOs.  Field corn and nearly all papayas from Hawaii are genetically modified.  Some varieties of sweet corn, tomatoes,  and zucchini are also genetically modified.   Continue reading “The Top 14 Fruits and Veggies to Buy Organic”

The prepping community is always full of well-meaning advice about “where” a prepper should move to increase the chances of survival during an SHTF scenario, but the information on “how” to move is hard to find.

I’m in the process of getting ready for a big move – across the continent and into another country.  I’ve been at this prepping gig for quite some time, and have relocated several times throughout, but I’ve never undertaken a venture this big.  When we relocated here to the forests of Central Ontario, I thought the 8 hour drive in the moving van was a pretty big deal.  Now, I’m putting it in perspective  against our upcoming 40+ hour drive, and it seems like a walk in the park.   Continue reading “Moving for Preppers”

How many times have you heard that prepper’s advice?

It’s repeated all the time because it is excellent, practical advice.  Sometimes it’s easier said than done, however.  While many of us store dehydrated foods, for example, do we know how to turn this into a delicious healthy meal?  No one wants to survive on MREs and Tang.  We don’t want to gnaw on 4 year old beef jerky and a cold can of green peas.  A disaster situation is bad enough without adding unpalatable food to the crisis.   Continue reading “Review: The Prepper’s Cookbook”

In a society that is geared towards instant gratification, the problem with non-processed food is that it isn’t “quick”.  One of the major reasons that people give for eating processed foods over whole foods is that “I needed something quick.”  Don’t let your need for speed sidetrack your healthy eating habits.

If you are a prepper, it’s especially important in a disaster situation to have food that you can turn to for quick nutrition.  In a grid-down situation, foods that don’t require cooking can be especially vital.  Some people make the mistake of relying on long-term storage foods that require lengthy cooking times, forgetting that cooking fuel might need to be rationed in order to last throughout the event.  Alternatively, relying on highly processed foods will not provide you with the extra energy you need for the demands that may be placed on you physically in such a situation.   Continue reading “Quick and Clean: 40 Non-Processed Snacks that Meet Your Need for Speed”

Have you ever selected a product at the supermarket and felt virtuous because the ingredients label boasted of “natural coloring” or “natural flavors”?  That sure sounds a lot better than those chemical concoctions, right?

Well, maybe not.  Just because something is “natural” doesn’t mean you would want to eat it if you knew where it was derived. The items that follow aren’t necessarily harmful, but they really don’t sound very appetizing.   Continue reading “Natural Additives: Bugs, Hair, and Anal Secretions, Oh My!”

Have you ever talked to a prepper who has highly processed, nutritionally-bereft foods stacked to the rafters?  Oftentimes the logic behind the purchase of massive quantities of these inexpensive items is, “Well, it’s better than going hungry!”

The bombing at the finish line of the Boston Marathon was a shocking act of terror.  All over the world, people watched in horror as the bombs went off, as people staggered and fell, and in the aftermath, saw the gory bloodstained sidewalks and graphic photos of people missing limbs.

We don’t expect acts like this to occur in America.  Although this is a regular occurrence in places like Iraq, where 55 people died, the victims of bombings that very same day, it seems to people in the insulated Western World that it is far more appalling when it occurs on American soil.   Continue reading “Washington Perfects the Art of Illusion: Keep America Focused on Boston Bombing while they Strip us of Rights and Prepare for War”
