John McCain is still Senator!!!

PHOENIX — Don’t look for “Sen. Doug Ducey,” at least for the foreseeable future.
The governor is not considering appointing himself to the U.S. Senate should that become necessary if Sen. John McCain were to quit before the end of his term, according to press aide Daniel Scarpinato.
“Gov. Ducey has never and would never consider such a ridiculous notion, no matter the circumstances,” Scarpinato said in a Twitter posting this weekend. And if that were not definitive enough, he expanded on that in a message to Capitol Media Services.

The highest court in Massachusetts ruled Monday that local law enforcement cannot keep people in custody solely at the request of federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The practice, often known as an “ICE detainer,” enabled federal authorities to take a longer look at the immigration status of people whom they suspect might be in the country illegally, even if they were otherwise free to leave.
“This could mean the individual’s charges have been dismissed, they’ve posted bail or their jail sentence has been completed,” Shannon Dooling of member station WBUR explains. “The detainer — which is not the same as an arrest warrant, which requires proof of probable cause and a judge’s signature — gives ICE up to two days to look into a person’s immigration status and potentially pursue deportation.” Continue reading “Mass. High Court: Local Authorities Can’t Detain People Without Charges For ICE”
WASHINGTON (AP) — John McCain will make a dramatic return to the Senate for a make-or-break vote on Republican health care legislation Tuesday just days after getting diagnosed with brain cancer, giving an emotional and arithmetical boost to his party’s reeling effort to repeal Obamacare.
The decision by the 80-year-old senator to travel to Washington from his Arizona home was announced by his office in a brief press release late Monday night. It comes with the GOP bill to erase and replace President Barack Obama’s law on the brink as Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pushes toward a pivotal vote Tuesday, prodded by an impatient and frustrated President Donald Trump. Israel has removed controversial metal detectors at the entrance to a holy site in Jerusalem, aiming to ease tension after days of protests.
But it remains to be seen whether Muslim worshippers will accept the security measures that Israel plans to implement in their place. The metal detectors were installed at the Muslim-administered site after several Israeli Arabs shot dead two Israeli police officers there. Washington, D.C.’s reflecting pool will run red with Faygo soda when Insane Clown Posse lead their “Juggalo” fans in a march on the capitol next year. The clown-faced, horror-rap duo’s Violent J made the announcement this past weekend at the 17th annual Gathering of the Juggalos. The march is part of the duo’s protesting of the FBI’s decision to list Juggalos as gang members.
“In 2017, the weekend of September 17th, we need you,” the rapper told an audience at what The Detroit News described as a “seminar discussion” at the Gathering of the Juggalos. “We’re gonna do a [expletive] march on Washington. They call the Juggalo World a movement, right? Well, let’s move!” Continue reading “Insane Clown Posse Plan D.C. March to Protest FBI”

He has sponsored some of the most socially conservative legislation in Virginia in the past 25 years, including a measure this year that would have restricted the bathrooms transgender people can use.

PHOENIX — If the new language in Arizona’s driver’s license manual sounds like something written by Black Lives Matter, there’s a good reason for it.
The provisions tell motorists what to do if they’re pulled over by a police officer. They also provide specific warnings about what not to do, like reaching around in the vehicle or getting out.
The goal is pretty simple, said state Rep. Reginald Bolding, a Laveen Democrat who helped write the section.

How did the term “to boycott” originate?
Northern Ireland of the 1880’s was mostly owned by relatively rich landowners, many of whom were of English descent and Protestants, while the land was worked by tenant farmers, mainly Irish and Catholic. As predictably happens whenever one group controls the assets and there are numerous asset-less workers, the tenants were often exploited. In the 1870’s, there had been a depression, so farm prices dropped, as well as a famine. Many farmers were unable to pay their rent. Continue reading “Mostly Forgotten History: Boycott”
