A group of activists attacked a Starbucks in Seattle, shattering the coffee shop’s windows and then setting off fireworks inside the building. Police arrived at the scene and ordered the rioters to disperse.
Black-clad protesters threw rocks and other projectiles at the business, while others used implements to destroy the windowed storefront. Video footage shows rioters lighting firecrackers and tossing them into the building. Several loud explosions can be heard as members of the mob cheer. SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California will develop a detailed plan for reparations under a new law signed on Wednesday by Gov. Gavin Newsom, making it the first state to mandate a study of how it can make amends for its role in the oppression of Black people.
The law creates a nine-member task force to come up with proposals for how the state could provide reparations to Black Americans, what form those reparations might take and who would be eligible to receive them. A court on Wednesday approved a total of $800million in payouts from casino company MGM Resorts International and its insurers to more than 4,400 relatives and victims of the Las Vegas Strip shooting that was the deadliest in recent US history.
The action makes final a deal announced earlier this month and settles dozens of lawsuits on the eve of the third anniversary of the shooting that killed 58 people and injured more than 850 at an open-air concert near the Mandalay Bay resort. It doesn’t matter who the president is, whether he’s Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal: If his lips are moving, he is lying. On the whole, Washington politicians are the biggest liars in the universe. They lie so much that they have totally and thoroughly lost touch with any semblance of honesty. They care as much for truth as they care about the lives of the people they routinely destroy. That’s one reason why I never watch presidential debates. Aurora, CO — A video released this week was so disturbing that even Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Wilson is speaking out about it, referring to what happened to a woman in it as “torture.” One of the chief’s now-former officers hog-tied a woman, Shataean Kelly, 28, before taking her on a “punishing” 20 minute ride during which she nearly died.
The incident happened last year and ended with the firing of Officer Levi Huffine. Since he was fired, the officer has been fighting for his job back, something that the chief says will not happen but something that readers of TFTP know happens all too often. Something wonderful happened today. Trenchers, who have for years lived only 9 miles apart, meet for the first time, in person, face-to-face. Wow. Galen and her husband, Kelly, meet Norm. Seagram’s liquor fortune heir Clare Bronfman, who is accused of using her family fortune to bankroll the NXIVM cult, has been sentenced to almost seven years in prison and ordered to pay a $500,000 fine for her role in the branded sex slave case.
Bronfman, the daughter of the late billionaire philanthropist and former Seagram chairman Edgar Bronfman Sr., was sentenced to a total of 81 months on Wednesday at the US District Court in Brooklyn. The first US presidential debate may have Americans looking north, according to Google Trends, which shows that Google searches for how to apply for Canadian citizenship and move to Canada drastically spiked following the chaotic faceoff on Tuesday between US President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
According to Google, queries for “how to apply for Canadian citizenship” spiked at 10:32 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, about one hour into the debate. At 4:24 a.m. on Wednesday, that same query skyrocketed in frequency. The Google search was most popular in Massachusetts, followed by Michigan, Illinois, New York and Pennsylvania, in that order.
