An the old saying goes: “lies, damned lies, and statistics.” It may not quite apply to a new FBI report on officer-involved shootings, but the phrase expresses some of the frustrations felt by activists on behalf of the victims who went uncounted.

Released Thursday, the FBI’s figures for police-on-civilian deadly shootings lacked adequate substance and included errors, according to a report by the Guardian. The data was collected on a voluntary basis from local police departments, but 99 percent of them did not volunteer any information.   Continue reading “No Eric Garner or Tamir Rice: FBI fails to adequately count civilian deaths by police”

Months after President Obama agreed to “normalize” relations between the U.S. and Cuba, and after opening an American embassy on the island, Raul Castro, in an obvious move to embarrass Obama, has agreed to send Cuban military troops to Syria at Putin’s behest.

Putin has dropped 300 Cuban troops into Syria to help his ally President Bashar al-Assad, beat back ISIS and those CIA-backed rebels that are combating the terrorist group, as well as trying to topple him.   Continue reading “Cuban Troops Land In Syria, U.S. Dragged Into Proxy War With Russia”

If there is one thing that the smelliest, most down-and-out, most destitute, most forsaken homeless guy who sleeps under a bridge has in common with Donald Trump it is that they both own their own bodies. That may be all the homeless guy owns, but he owns it free and clear and should be able to do what he wants with it.

And so should we—as long as our activities are peaceful, our interactions are consensual, and our associations are voluntary.   Continue reading “Do You Own Your Own Body?”

The “police use-of-force” expert who wrote one of two reports that deemed the fatal police shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in November was “reasonable” was also instrumental in clearing Colorado officers in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old girl.

S. Lamar Sims, a senior deputy district attorney in Denver, Colorado, was hired by the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office to conduct an independent review a Cleveland, Ohio police officer’s use-of-force against Rice ahead of a grand jury trial. The inquiry will attempt to determine whether Officer Timothy Loehmann, who is white, used reasonable force in shooting the 12-year-old Rice, who was black, because he was perceived as being “a serious threat.”   Continue reading “Same expert justified both Cleveland & Denver cops’ shooting of minors”

The corporatists at Big Pharma, as well as the purveyors of political correctness, have scored another victory with Americans: shaming anyone who thinks that dangerous psychotropic, mind-and-mood-altering medications are ultimately bad for your health.

They even have a catchy new hashtag campaign underway.

As reported by the left-leaning Buzzfeed news site, #MedicatedAndMighty is a hashtag developed by Erin Jones, a blogger who posted a photo on her Facebook page of her holding a pair of prescriptions for psychotropic drugs after being offline for a while, with this accompanying explanation:   Continue reading “Americans now PROUD to be medicated with mind-altering drugs: #MedicatedAndMighty hashtag now being used by total zombies sporting bags full of prescription drugs”

Christopher Columbus is a polarizing historical figure whose life has been defined, by many, for his astonishing level of courage and intestinal fortitude; nevertheless, such impressive traits should never blur the fact that he oversaw a murderous quest for material riches that resulted in the utter demise of a people. Each year, as October 12 comes and goes, a question is raised – what are we celebrating about his life?   Continue reading “Columbus was a mass killer and father of the slave trade”

Prosecutors investigating the death of a 12-year-old black boy who was fatally shot by a white Cleveland police officer say they are just trying to be transparent in seeking and sharing outside reviews by experts in use of force. A lawyer for the boy’s family, however, says the outside reports finding that the shooting was justified show that prosecutors are avoiding accountability.

The reports were released Saturday night by the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, which asked for the outside reviews as it presents evidence to a grand jury that will ultimately determine whether Timothy Loehmann will be charged in the November death of Tamir Rice, who was holding a pellet gun.   Continue reading “Officer’s shooting of Tamir Rice justified, 2 outside reports rule”

No, I’m not running. This is a hybrid article about something else. Call it fantasy, metaphor, excursion into the wild blue yonder. It’s as real or unreal as things are to you when you imagine them. Have you ever experienced, with full-bodied impact, a future that didn’t exist, a new day that hadn’t come yet? Have you ever fallen asleep and had a dream that was more real than waking life? If so, you qualify as a candidate for the Presidency…

Okay. Here we go.

Ahem. Let me start off by saying this a metaphysical article, because on that level I am already President of the United States…and if that sounds ridiculous…good. Let’s begin from the ridiculous, since that’s where this country is anyway.   Continue reading “Rappoport: if I were President, if you were”
