Globally, those who are poor or marginalized because of their identities pay far more than the rich to acquire clean water.

That’s according to the new World Water Development Report (WWDR 2019), which is published annually by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization’s World Water Assessment Program (UNESCO-WWAP). This year’s report, entitled Leaving No One Behind, was unveiled Tuesday at an ongoing session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.  Continue reading “UNESCO Report Shows World’s Most Vulnerable and Poor Paying More Than Rich for Clean Water”

Chesapeake, VA — A mother is grieving and also crying foul after police say her 19-year-old daughter killed herself during a routine traffic stop. According to the mother, police told her that her daughter was handcuffed when she somehow got a gun and shot herself. Now, after “investigating themselves” police have officially closed the case despite witnesses and a video telling a different story.

Sarah Wilson committed suicide on July 25, 2018, during a traffic stop near the intersection of Berkley Avenue and Wilson Road, according to the Chesapeake Police Department. According to police, while handcuffed with her hands behind her back, Wilson was able to acquire a gun, place it in her mouth, and pull the trigger.  Continue reading “Police Claim Teen Shot Herself in the Mouth With Hands Cuffed Behind Her Back During Traffic Stop”

“In too much of policing today, officer safety has become the highest priority. It trumps the rights and safety of suspects. It trumps the rights and safety of bystanders. It’s so important, in fact, that an officer’s subjective fear of a minor wound from a dog bite is enough to justify using potentially lethal force, in this case at the expense of a 4-year-old girl. And this isn’t the first time. In January, an Iowa cop shot and killed a woman by mistake while trying to kill her dog. Other cops have shot other kidsother bystanderstheir partnerstheir supervisors and even themselves while firing their guns at a dog. That mind-set is then, of course, all the more problematic when it comes to using force against people.”—Journalist Radley Balko

Despite being entirely healthy, a federal judge handed down a decision this week that denied healthy children entry into school based on the sole factor of being unvaccinated. The judge cited an “unprecedented measles outbreak” for his decision to ban unvaccinated children from school.

“The plaintiffs have not demonstrated that public interest weighs in favor of granting an injunction,” U.S. District Court Judge Vincent Briccetti said in federal court this week. Continue reading “Federal Judge Bans Healthy Children from School for Being Unvaccinated”

Fresno, CA — Police officers across America deal with horrific and often tragic cases on a daily basis. From coast to coast, they have to tell families that their child has been run over or their mother committed suicide or that their father has been killed in a car wreck. This job can be incredibly stressful and gut wrenching, which would make one think that adding extra stress to the job would be a terrible idea. However, cops, like the ones in the video below—on a daily basis—create more stress for themselves by turning people against them by committing despicable acts of unnecessary violence.  Continue reading “Cops Hold Man Down as Fellow Cop Smashes His Face In with His Boot”

Whether they’re sleeping in their cars, or crashing on couches, or are among the growing number of California’s “unsheltered” homeless, some 19% responded to a survey of community college students saying they either didn’t have a place to live, or were simply crashing or living in their vehicles.  Continue reading “20% Of California Community College Student Are Homeless, Study Finds”

Exact figures aren’t clear at this point, but what is clear is that the general direction of this budget is going to face major opposition within the House of Representatives, not just from the Democratic leadership, but from some Republicans as well.   Continue reading “Trump Budget Would Slash Domestic Spending, Boost Military Spending”
