BOSTON (AP) — It has been one of the lingering questions since the dramatic manhunt that gripped the Boston area in the days after the marathon bombings: Where did the suspects get the gun that authorities say they used to kill a university police officer?

Answers may come soon with the arrest of a friend of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev who people with knowledge of the investigation say was the source of the weapon. Stephen Silva made an initial appearance Tuesday in federal court on charges related to heroin trafficking and possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number.   Continue reading “Arrest linked to gun used after Boston bombings”

The two Americans killed in fighting in the Gaza Strip followed in the footsteps of scores of Jews from around the world who have volunteered to fight for Israel.

Israel calls them the lone soldiers: They are men and women in the prime of their lives who have left their parents and often comfortable lives behind in places like Sydney, London, Los Angeles and elsewhere to join the Israel Defense Forces, marching in the desert and taking up arms to defend the Jewish state.   Continue reading “American Jews, other ‘lone soldiers’ serve Israel”

DETROIT (AP) — Roused from sleep by the sound of pounding in the wee hours, a suburban Detroit man grabbed his shotgun, opened the front door and blasted a young woman in the face.

Jury selection starts Monday in a trial that will put Wafer’s self-defense claim to a tough test. FRESNO, California (AP) — Police were investigating whether the same men who robbed a bank, took hostages and led a deadly chase and shootout carried out other recent bank heists in the same part of Northern California, including one earlier this year at the very same branch.

There were striking similarities between a late-January robbery at the Bank of the West and the one this week that left a hostage and two robbers dead, police said. In both cases, armed robbers made their getaway by stealing a bank employee’s car.   Continue reading “Police: Men may have robbed California bank before”

Ron Paul (Reuters / Joel Page)RT

Referring to the tragic downing of a Malaysian Airlines plane over eastern Ukraine, former Texas congressman Ron Paul warned against jumping to conclusions over the culprits.

Drawing parallels between the potential for a Russian-made missile system’s connection to the attack of the passenger jet on Thursday over the restive Donetsk region of Ukraine and the capture of US-made weapons by Islamist insurgents in Iraq, Paul pointed out that the missile’s potential source of manufacture was largely immaterial.   Continue reading “Malaysian jet tragedy propagandized – Ron Paul”
