The former CEO of a Towson credit union and her husband — a Baltimore County police sergeant — are charged with stealing more than $100,000 from the financial institution, authorities said.
Tina M. Galloway, 44, managed the HealthCare United Federal Credit Union, which serves employees of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and Sheppard Pratt Hospital. She and her husband, Sgt. Daniel Gregory Galloway, 40, were charged in Baltimore County this week on theft allegations.
Daniel Galloway is an 18-year veteran of the county Police Department assigned to the tactical unit. Officials said Friday he has been suspended without pay in light of the charges.
Assistant State’s Attorney Adam Lippe said the charges against the Fallston couple came after “a very complicated six-month investigation.” He declined to comment further.
A representative of the credit union could not be reached for comment.
Police said the credit union contacted the county state’s attorney’s office in March about possible fraud. County detectives opened an investigation.
Investigators say Tina Galloway falsified records and issued checks to herself that were supposed to be for bank expenses. Detectives believe Daniel Galloway knew of some of his wife’s activities and conspired to defraud the credit union. They also say they discovered discrepancies in credit union loans to the Galloways.
“The amount of money involved remains under investigation, but police believe the amount is substantial,” police said in a statement.
Tina Galloway’s attorney, Marshall Henslee, declined to comment. An attorney for Daniel Galloway could not be reached.

Tina Galloway began working for the credit union in 2000 and became CEO in 2002, according to police. She resigned after the credit union found discrepancies in the Galloway family accounts during a routine audit in November, police said.
