Bow Hunting Whitetail Deer , Archery Hunting Tips
Have you ever bagged a whitetail deer with a bow and arrow? If not and your thinking about it then you need to read on. One of the most important things you need to do is to prepare yourself before you take a bow and arrow in hand and go out in the woods in search of that trophy White Tail Buck. You need to prepare yourself in several ways so lets take a look at some of the things you need to do if you plan on bow hunting white tail deer.
1. Practice with a bow and arrow on a target before you even think about going out into the woods in search of deer. I would strongly suggest buying a deer size target to practice shooting your arrows into.
2. You need to practice shooting with near the same pull weight you plan on using for hunting. And you need to practice until you can put 8 out of 10 arrows into the kill area on your target. Keep in mind that it will feel different shooting at a target than it will feel shooting at a living breathing deer.
3. You most likely will be using a deer stand and you will be a lot better off using one of the easy climb deer stands. Basically this is where you hug the tree and raise your feet raising your deer stand a few more feet each time working your way up the tree. You need to practice with your deer stand until you can easily put it up a tree. Don’t wait until you go to the woods bow hunting whitetail deer to learn how to use your deer stand.
4. Find out if your state requires the wearing of a orange vest or orange clothing for safety. Know your state deer hunting regulations well. If your hunting with a friend or friends practice testing each other on the hunting regulations.
5. Make sure if your hunting on private property that you have permission to hunt there. Written permission is always better than verbal permission.
6. Especially when bow hunting you need to be where the deer are in order to have a successful deer hunt. A few yards to far to one side or the other may put your deer out of range. So pick the site of your deer stand with care. Learn deer sign and learn deers food sources so you will have a good ideal about where to place your deer stand. Try to think like a deer would think and ask yourself is it realistic to think that a deer might come close enough for you to take a shot with your bow and arrow.
7. Think about the deers food and water sources. Is there a food or water source close enough to where your thinking about putting your deer stand to place the deer close enough for you to get a shot at the deer with your bow and arrow. If its legal in your state can you put out salt blocks to draw deer close enough for you to get a shot with your bow and arrow.
If you will pay careful attention to those deer hunting tips you will stand a much better chance of getting a shot at your deer and if you get a shot and you’ve practiced until your a good shot with your bow and arrow you stand a great chance of taking a deer home with you.
Delicious Deer Sausage Recipe
If your going to make deer sausage you’ll need to have either a sausage grinderor a food processor with a metal blade. I make my deer sausage out in patties and cook them that way for some of the best deer sausage you’ll ever eat in your life. Now this recipe will make a lot of sausage but what I do is make the sausage and then I go ahead and form it into patties and that way I can go ahead and freeze the uncooked patties of sausage between pieces of wax paper and then wrap it up in tin foil. That way I can take out the number of patties I need and cook them up.
1. Five Pounds Of Lean Deer Meat With The Extra Fat Removed.
2. Two Pounds Of Lean Bacon.
3. Two Tablespoons Red Pepper Flakes.
4. Two Tablespoons Ground Sage.
5. One Teaspoon Ground Sea Salt.
6. One Teaspoon Thyme.
7. One Tablespoon Garlic Powder.
You’ll want to run all your meat first through the sausage grinder or food processor and then you’ll want to run it through again with the spices added in. You may want to run it through a third time to make sure everything gets very well mixed together.
If you’ll make your deer sausage this way you’ll end up with some of the most delicious deer sausage that you’ll ever taste in your life. Make it and let me know what you think about this wonderful deer sausage.
The Best Deer Stew You’ll Ever Eat
I’ve been making this delicious deer stew now for a number of years and everyone that ever tries it says that it’s the best deer stew that they have ever tasted.
You want to start with about four pounds of deer meat with no sinew or bones and you want to cut your deer meat up into small bite size pieces.
Once you have all your meat cut up into small bite size pieces mix two cups of flour with a teaspoon of ground sea salt and a teaspoon ground black pepper. Mix the flour, salt, and pepper together very well.
Put your cubes of deer meat into the flour a few cubes at a time until you have all the meat coated with the flour. Add a couple of tablespoons of vegetable oil to a large skillet on medium heat and brown your meat a bit at a time until you have all your flour coated deer meat browned.
Now put all the deer meat into a large slow cooker or crock pot and to that add the below ingredients.
1. Two Cups Very Thin Sliced Button Mushrooms.
2. Three Cups Peeled And Thin Cut Up Carrots.
3. Three Cups Peeled And Cubed Potatoes.
4. One Cup Fine Diced Sweet Onion.
Cook on high for eight hours stirring often. You’ll end up with one of the most delicious deer stews that you’ll ever taste in your life. I serve my deer stew over hot buttered white rice. It’s absolutely delicious this way.
In some states crossbows are legal for deer hunting. Check your states hunting regulations to see if you can use a crossbow for deer hunting in your state.
Delicious Venison Chili Recipe
If your looking for a really great chili recipe for venison then here it is. If you didn’t get a deer this year you can use lean chuck roast instead. But it is a wonderful chili made with venison that everyone loves.
Venison Chili Ingredients
1. Two Pound Of Venison Cut In Very Small Cubes.
2. One Cup Purple Or Red Sweet Onion Diced Very Fine.
3. One Cup Red Bell Pepper Diced Very Fine.
4. One Cup Green Bell Pepper Diced Very Fine.
5. Two Large Jalapeno Peppers With Seeds And Stems Removed And Diced Fine.
6. Two Tablespoons Minced Fresh Garlic.
7. Two Teaspoons Oregano.
8. Two Teaspoons Ground Cumin.
9. Two Teaspoons Chili Powder.
10. One Four Ounce Can Green Chilies.
11. Four Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce.
12. Six Cups Beef Broth.
13. One Twenty Eight Ounce Can Diced Tomatoes.
14. One Six Ounce Can Tomato Paste.
Start off by browning your venison on all sides until it is brown on all sides. Then saute your peppers, onions, and garlic until it is done. Now add everything to a large stock pot and stir to mix very well.
Now you will want to bring this stock pot of ingredients up to a boil and after five minutes reduce the temperature to a low medium and allow your pot of venison chili to cook for about two hours stirring often. Be sure to stir up from the bottom of the pot often to prevent sticking.
This cooking down time is very important both to allow your meat to get tender and to cook your venison chili down and give it the body and thick gravy a deliciouschili needs. I love to serve this chili with cornbread and I offer sour cream on the side. I hope you get to make this delicious venison chili real soon.
Archery Hunting Tips , Bowhunting Whitetail Deer
You need to practice getting to your deer stand as quietly as possible but you also need to practice getting out of the woods as quietly as possible. If you sound like a elephant walking through the woods there will be little if any chance of you seeing a deer. The American Indians practiced at being quite when hunting and you need to do so also.
Get as close to the deers food source as possible when you are setting up your deer stand or picking the tree you are going to put your deer stand up. You can also look for a trail where they are entering a field on a regular basis or look for a hole of water where they are drinking water on a regular basis.
When you are scouting a area pay attention to the way the wind is blowing. Listen to what you hear. If you find a apple tree with apples on it make a note of it. If you find a place where there is a abundance of acorns make a note of it. Food sources are important when you are whitetail deer hunting and even more important when you are bow hunting. Can you set your deer stand up over or over to one side over or near the deers food source. If so you just may get a shot at the deer. Be sure that you practice shooting at targets with your bow and arrow from as many different angles as possible. Keep in mind that you need to practice with your bow and arrow until your as good a shot as is possible. You must after all be able to hit the deer with your bow and arrow or there is little use carrying the bow and arrow and deer stand out into the woods.
I have found for me that the best height for a deer stand is 15 to 20 feet up a tree. For the most part deers won’t see you at this height unless you do a lot of moving around. Practice being as still as you can. Don’t take a radio with you and don’t wear cologne to the deer stand. If you use two way radios use a ear plug and talk on them only when it is absolutely necessary. Noise of any type will ruin your deer hunt. So keep the noise to a minimum. Remember that a deers hearing is also much better than yours.
Always wear a safety belt when your deer hunting so that you can lean out of your stand to get that really good shot at the deer. And remember you need to practice these leaning shots while your practicing shooting with your bow or crossbow. In a lot of the United States you can now use a crossbow while hunting. Check your local regulations to see if you can use a cross bow in your area. You should always know your local hunting regulations.
Trail cameras can be very important for knowing if there are deer moving around in the area where you plan to put your tree stand. Put the trail camera out and leave it there for at least three days and then check it.
One great thing about becoming a bow hunter is there will be fewer hunters during bow season than there will be a few weeks later during gun season. You can also walk further in than other deer hunters to have less deer hunters and a better chance of a shot at a big buck with your bow and arrow. Fewer hunters will greatly improve your chances of a shot at a big buck deer.
And again let me stress that it is very important that you become a great shot with a bow and arrow. You can practice shooting all summer there in the back yard with your bow and arrow. The shot you will get at that big buck will most likely be split second shot. You will have to draw your bow and shoot and you need to practice until you have confidence in your shooting. Why not check your states hunting regulations to see if you can legally use a crossbow.
Bottom line there must be deer in your hunting area for you to be able to kill one. Find out through careful scouting during the summer with your deer stand and a pair of binoculars if the area your thinking about bow hunting in contains a good population of white tail deer. At the same time you can look for the deers food sources and water sources. Look around carefully for places you can put your deer stand up a tree when bowhunting whitetail deer.
Archery Hunting Tips
1. Be sure to carry a knife or folding saw with you in case you need to remove a branch or tree limb once you have your deer stand in place. You can even carry sturdy twine with you to tie cut branches or limbs to the bottom of your tree stand.
2. Always wear a safety rope or safety harness when up in your deer stand both for safety and so you can make difficult leaning shots with out the fear of falling from your deer stand.
3. Always keep in mind that noise and scent are the bow hunters worst enemies. You don’t want to wear cologne or anything with a strong smell when your white tail deer hunting.
4. And finally practice , practice , practice. Become a good to very good shot with your bow at various ranges. Also be sure to practice shooting from your deer stand. Be confident in shooting your bow and confident that you can hit the target and just maybe you will get that big buck deer this year.
Practice Shooting From Your Deer Stand.
I can’t stress enough how important it is that you obtain a life size deer target to shoot at. You need to set this target up and practice shooting at it from your deer stand. Practice at different distances so you’ll know how close the deer has to get before you take your shot with your bow or cross bow.
Ideally you should set up a area where you can shoot with your bow or cross bow at three to four foam deer targets set up at various distances. And again I can’t stress enough how important it is to practice. The only way you can ever be a great shot with your crossbow or bow is to practice. Foam deer targets make excellent targets.
It’s very important that you get to the point to where you can judge distances. Being able to judge distances will make it much easier for you to know if the shot at a live deer is possible or not.

How To Make Deer Sausage, Deer Snack Sticks and Deer Jerky
Deer Jerky Recipe
I have a food dehydrator with six trays that I always make my deer jerky in. I usually start with two pounds of lean deer shoulder or brisket and the first thing I always do is trim away any extra fat and then I cut my deer meat up into thin long strips that will easily fit on the trays on my food dehydrator.
Once you have your deer meat trimmed up and cut into small pieces you’ll want to mix the below ingredients into a bowl.
Deer Jerky Marinade
1. One Cup Soy Sauce.
2. Two Tablespoons Brown Sugar.
3. One Teaspoon Ground Sea Salt.
4. One Teaspoon Ground Black Pepper.
Once you have the ingredients very well mixed together you’ll want to put your prepared deer meat into the marinade and coat the meat well. I often will put my deer meat in the marinade in a plastic container and let it soak in the marinade in the refrigerator over night before I drain the meat and put it into the food dehydrator.
Put the meat onto the trays in your food dehydrator and turn it on. Let your food dehydrator run until the pieces of deer jerky are brown and well dried out. This will take 24 hours or longer. I think you’ll find that this will be some of the best deer jerky that you’ve ever had in your life. I know it’s one of my favorite recipes for deer jerky. This is some of the best flavored deer jerky that I’ve ever had in my life. And I think if you’ll give it a try that you’ll agree that it is wonderful deer jerky.
Hey All,I am a mass murderer of deer, have 30 or more quarts of canned deer in the cellar, turn 3-4 whole deer into jerky each year(jerky is like ginsang 4lbs.wet=1lb dry.No brag just fact.LEAVE THEM BIG HORNED STINKING RUTTING BUCKS FOR THE “PROS” I hunt the smallest tenderest milk on their lip deer I can find, especially during bow season it is fairly easy to fill your tags. All this spray on hide your scent SCAMS are a waste of money-DEER SEE MOVEMENT,they see in 2D and are color blind, all this hide your odor crap they sell is just that a scam UNLESS YOU HAVE A REBREATHER enclosed mask& helmet over your head your breath is emitting more smell than the entire rest of your body.As far as being sneaky in the woods in my opinion this is more wasted time as again deers see MOVEMENT,I cant tell the # of times I sneaked and sneaked thinking I was the great white hunter and see deer 100 yds away watching my every move.Humans are not STEALTHY in the woods deer are like hunting ghost, its like their element and humans are fish out of water.
Steve
Yup, I’ve often had does walk up sniffing the air and smelling my pipe smoke!

Sheesh, My likker is becoming a world traveler! I just might have to find a way to go legit and make some real (fiat) money. 🙂
Good article #1!
I remember making venison sausage & burger we used lard, (I’m guessing>) instead of the bacon & did some sausage in the casing. Yum! lol, I was at the grinder my job (but got to add spices (sausage) I’d usually put in just a lil’ more sage) 🙂 too!
And boy O’ boy do I miss venison jerky! We added pepper flakes to part (My Mom didn’t like hot, Dad did 🙂 Yum! Again!
Used wood stove for the jerky, dehydrators weren’t around back then.
When I lived in Salt Lake City back in the 70’s, my ex-wife’s best friend’s dad used to bag his deer every year. She would always bring over a pound or so of jerky. That stuff was great. Kinda miss it.
Not the ex, though. 🙂
