OGDENSBURG – With sunset approaching Sept. 21 and time running out on days he could devote to hunting a giant Waupaca County black bear, Dennis Arndt decided to try something radical to coax the old boar out of hiding.

Arndt, 35, of rural Manawa, gambled that the bear was holed up in a nearby cornfield, probably within hearing of his ground blind. Chelsea Clinton has given birth to a daughter, a message posted to her verified Twitter account announced early Saturday.

The baby, named Charlotte, is the first child for Ms. Clinton and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky. “Marc and I are full of love, awe and gratitude as we celebrate the birth of our daughter, Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky,” read the Twitter message.

Ms. Clinton’s parents, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, both quickly retweeted the message from their own Twitter accounts. The U.S. Justice Department scolded the Ferguson, Missouri, police chief Friday for letting law enforcement officers obscure their names on their badges and wear bracelets honoring Darren Wilson, the Ferguson cop who shot and killed teenager Michael Brown.

In a letter to Chief Thomas Jackson, the Justice Department said residents had provided photos of law enforcement officers “wearing ‘I am Darren Wilson’ bracelets while in uniform and on duty,” a reference to the Ferguson officer who is under grand jury investigation in the Aug. 9 killing of Brown that set off several days of violent clashes. U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 15 illegal immigrants early Friday morning after a panga boat washed ashore in the Mission Beach area.

The 35-foot vessel was spotted on the ocean moving north, directly west of Belmont Park, by agents from the Imperial Beach Station at around 3:45 a.m., U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said.

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson on Thursday issued a video apology to the family of Michael Brown, the unarmed teenager who was killed by Officer Darren Wilson on August 9, while continuing to ignore residents’ repeated calls for his resignation.

Jackson also walked briefly on Thursday night with protesters who have been marching against police brutality—and demanding Wilson’s arrest—for more than six weeks. Despite his presence at the demonstration, however, several protesters were arrested in the early hours of Friday morning. Video footage of the march shows officers violently placing at least one woman in custody who had been marching side by side with Jackson before he was led away by a police escort. FBI officials are investigating a beheading at an Oklahoma food distribution center after co-workers said the suspect tried to convert them to Islam after his recent conversion.

The alleged suspect, Alton Nolen, 30, was recently fired from Vaughan Foods in Moore prior to Thursday’s attack. Moore Police Department Sgt. Jeremy Lewis told KFOR that Nolen drove to the front of the business and struck a vehicle before walking inside. He then attacked Colleen Hufford, 54, stabbing her several times before severing her head. The U.S. government may have to pay big bucks to settle an unbelievable case involving an anchor baby—traveling from Guatemala with her illegal immigrant grandfather—who wasn’t allowed into the country to be reunited with her illegal alien parents.

It sounds like a bad joke, but it’s a real-life case pending in federal court and a George W. Bush-appointed judge appears to sympathize with the illegal immigrants. A Windsor, Ontario, man was arrested Wednesday by border patrol agents after he allegedly tried to smuggle more than 50 turtles hidden in his underpants and strapped elsewhere to his body into the United States.

Kai Xu was detained at the Detroit-Windsor border after authorities “noticed irregularly shaped bulges under (his) sweatpants on both his legs,” The Detroit News reports.
