Cop Has to Chase His Own Car After Forgetting to Put It in Park

While a police officer in Ohio was conducting a traffic stop, his own vehicle tried to flee the scene.

In what might be one of the strangest police pursuits ever caught on camera, an as-yet unnamed Miami County sheriff’s deputy had to chase down and stop his cruiser as it rolled backward into an intersection near Troy.  

A witness, Brenden Besecker, recorded the incident and shared the video with WHIO7:

Sheriff Dave Duchak says his deputy left the cruiser in gear, but was thankfully able to catch up with it before it damaged property or harmed anyone.

The sheriff put out a statement that read in part, “Although, as a professional office we strive for precision in such matters, I also recognize that human error may occur.”

The deputy’s name has not been released and it is not known whether there will be any disciplinary action. The sheriff said it will be handled internally, according to ABC.
