POSTAL SERVICEHuffington Post – by Pauline Jelinek

WASHINGTON (AP) — Millions of Americans would no longer get mail delivered to their door but would have to go to communal or curbside boxes instead under a proposal advancing through Congress.

The Republican-controlled House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, on an 18-13 party-line vote, approved a bill Wednesday to direct the U.S. Postal Service to convert 15 million addresses over the next decade to the less costly, but also less convenient delivery method.   Continue reading “Door-To-Door Mail Would Stop For Millions Under Proposed Law”

Seven borrowers who had been paying their Sallie Mae student loans on time for years were unexpectedly threatened with asset seizures after a Sallie Mae contractor demanded they immediately repay tens of thousands of dollars simply because a family member had died.

Regina Kibler, a retiree who lives off payments from her late husband’s life insurance policy, spent days agonizing over how to help her son, Christopher, pay back nearly $22,000 neither had. Samantha Flora hired a lawyer to fight attempts to recoup some $20,000 from her dead grandmother’s estate that have turned members of her family against one another.   Continue reading “Sallie Mae Torments Faithful Student Borrowers After Co-Signers Die”

It might be the first order U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi doesn’t obey.

The mother of the reservist, who is being held in a Mexican jail after mistakenly crossing the border with registered guns, told FoxNews.com her son just got an “Order to Muster” letter from the Marines telling Tahmooressi to report to the 4th Civil Affairs Group in Hialeah, Fla., on June 14. Although a Marine spokeswoman later told FoxNews.com that the corps is aware of Tahmooressi’s current circumstances and does not expect him to report, failure typically can result in “other than honorable discharge” and affect Veterans Administration benefits.   Continue reading “Marine jailed in Mexico receives order to report to USMC superiors”

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, shown here at the dedication of the Sept. 11 memorial, was talking gun control to CBS Sunday, no matter what he called it.Examiner – by Dave Workman

Billionaire anti-gunner Michael Bloomberg may have entered a new phase of selling gun control yesterday when, during a conversationwith Bob Schieffer on CBS’ “Face The Nation,” he introduced a new term regarding background checks and also suggested that gun control, by any other name, is not gun control.

At about three and a half minutes into the interview, Bloomberg told Schieffer, “We’ve got to make sure that the Congressmen understand the vast bulk of Americans want them to vote for sensible gun regulation, not control, not banning, just regulation.”   Continue reading “Bloomberg sets new tone for disingenuous anti-gun semantics”

Residents in a southwest Oregon county voted emphatically to ban genetically engineered crops following a campaign that attracted a bushel of out-of-state money.

With most of the ballots counted in Tuesday’s all-mail election, Jackson County voters approved the measure by a 2-to-1 margin. A similar, lower-profile measure in neighboring Josephine County led 58 percent to 42 percent with nearly two-thirds of expected ballots counted.   Continue reading “Jackson County, Oregon, Approves GMO Ban”

The head of a Canadian Jewish advocacy group is slamming the United Nations over its “knee-jerk” reaction to a video that human rights groups claim shows two unarmed Palestinian teenagers being shot by Israeli soldiers.

“Frankly, Israel really doesn’t need to take instructions from the UN about the proper followup to incidents involving fatalities,” Shimon Fogel, head of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, told CBC News. “There’s a long established process by which every such incident is thoroughly investigated by an arm’s length body within the national policing structure.”   Continue reading “UN accused of ‘knee-jerk’ reaction to Israel over video of Palestinian deaths”

A top UN official has called for a transparent and independent investigation into the fatal shooting of two Palestinian teenagers by Israeli border police during a demonstration in the West Bank.

“It is of serious concern that initial information appears to indicate that the two Palestinians killed were both unarmed and appeared to pose no direct threat,” said Oscar Fernandez-Taranco, the assistant UN secretary general for political affairs.   Continue reading “Outrage in UN as CCTV video indicates killed Palestinian teens posed no threat to IDF”

Los Alamos National Laboratory technicians repackage nuclear waste in 2011 for shipment to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in New Mexico. On Monday, the state said there may be an "imminent" and "substantial" threat to the public from 57 nuclear-waste drums packed using problematic materials.NTI

New Mexico’s government said dozens of nuclear-waste drums may pose an “imminent” and “substantial” danger to residents, theAssociated Press reports.

New Mexico Environment Secretary Ryan Flynn gave Los Alamos National Laboratory until Wednesday to propose steps for locking down the 57 barrels, which it packed using materials tied to a burst container in an underground area of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant near Carlsbad. The Energy Department has linked the breakage to a February radiation release that spread contaminants to 22 workers and forced personnel to vacate much of the repository.   Continue reading “New Mexico Sees ‘Imminent’ Danger From Nuclear-Waste Barrels”

An advanced group of hackers recently attacked a US public utility, compromising its control system network without affecting the utility’s operations, according to the US Department of Homeland Security.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not name the utility in a report released this week by the agency’s Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT).   Continue reading “US utility’s control systems hit by advanced cyber attack – DHS”

Why is ATF looking to expand reporting requirements now, before the elections? And why has everyone been so quiet about it?Examiner – by David Codrea

A little noticed and virtually unreported April 15 notice posted in the Federal Register suggests the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives intends expanding the multiple rifle sale requirement currently imposed on four border states (Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas) to all states.

Titled “Agency Information Collection Activities; Proposed eCollection eComments Requested; Report of Multiple Sale or Other Disposition of Certain Rifles,” and assigned OMB Number 1140–0100, the 60-day notice abstract declares “The purpose of this information collection is to require Federal Firearms Licensees to report multiple sales or other dispositions whenever the licensee sells or otherwise disposes of two or more rifles within any five consecutive business days with the following characteristics: (a) Semi automatic; (b) a caliber greater than .22; and (c) the ability to accept a detachable magazine.   Continue reading “ATF quietly laying groundwork to expand multiple rifle sales reporting”

Once again, it seems that yesterday’s conspiracy theory is today’s news.

However, the signposts have been there all along. Microchip implants to track pets and livestock and the elderly are now widely available, while microchipping kids is not far off. Extensive animal testing has been conducted on monkeys to enable them to control devices via brain-computer interface. Edible “smart pill” microchips have been embraced as a way to correctly monitor patient dosages and vital signs.

Human/Animal HybridsEnd of the American Dream – by Michael Snyder

Did you know that scientists are creating cow/human hybrids, pig/human hybrids and even mouse/human hybrids?  This is happening every single day in labs all over the western world, but most people have never even heard about it.  So would you drink milk from a cow/human hybrid that produces milk that is almost identical to human breast milk?  And how would you interact with a mouse that has a brain that is almost entirely human?  These are the kinds of questions that we will have to start to address as a society as scientists create increasingly bizarre human/animal hybrids.  Thanks to dramatic advances in genetic technology, we have gotten to the point where it is literally possible for college students to create new hybrid lifeforms in their basements.   Of course our laws have not kept pace with these advances, and now that Pandora’s Box has been opened, it is going to be nearly impossible to shut it.   Continue reading “The Era Of Chimeras: Scientists Fearlessly Create Bizarre Human/Animal Hybrids”

If you’ve been imagining NSA surveillance as something distant, with analysts sitting in remote data centers quietly analyzing metadata—stop now. NSA surveillance has become a part of day-to-day law enforcement fabric in the United States. The Snowden disclosures that were made public as part of Glenn Greenwald’s book No Place to Hide drive this point home, and they emphasize why we need real change to government surveillance, not minor reforms.

There are two key points necessary to understand the domestic aspect of NSA surveillance: the integral role of the FBI in helping the NSA spy on Americans, and the acceptance of usage of NSA material for domestic and traditional law enforcement purposes. These are contingent, of course, on the fact that the NSA’s procedures allow widespread targeting of Americans.   Continue reading “How the NSA is Transforming Law Enforcement”

The President of These United States violates the law daily. He signs executive orders that take away our God Given Rights whenever he feels like it. He disregards our Constitution because he considers it outdated. All we ever hear from Congress is complaints that he is breaking the law. They say the word impeachment, but are too scared to start proceedings. They have the authority and justification to stop what is happening. The House of Representatives has the power to impeach the president and the Senate has the power to convict and punish him, yet they do nothing.   Continue reading “The Republic is Dead!
