KYIV: Only the NATO membership can protect Ukraine from Russian aggression.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk said within the frames of the 11th Annual Meeting of Yalta European Strategy YES, held in Kyiv, a Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“We must clearly recognize that, in these particular circumstances, NATO is the only way to protect Ukraine,” Yatseniuk said.

Billionaire Microsoft co-founder and Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen apparently doesn’t get everything he wants – at least not yet.

A Soviet Scud surface-to-surface missile was a no-problem purchase for him at $349,000. A rusty and inoperable Cold War-era M55 self-propelled howitzer was a comparable bargain at $45,000.

Back in 2010, a plan was announced to install transcranial ultrasonic mind control devices into soldiers’ helmets in order to boost alertness, as well as relieve battle stress and pain. The Department of Defense has also been working on an augmented reality creation called iOptik, which would enhance a soldier’s biology by offering simultaneous fields of vision, while enabling full data integration. Then of course there was T.A.L.O.S. an Iron Man-like suit that incorporates biometrics, liquid body armor that can change into bullet-proof solid skin, an exoskeleton for improved strength and speed, as well as the latest in augmented reality computing. Lava from one of the world’s most active volcanos soon could reach three vacant lots in a rural subdivision on Hawaii’s Big Island, but officials are hopeful homes will be spared. Based on the lava’s movement of about 200 to 300 yards a day, the flow from Kilauea volcano was expected to reach the lots in Kaohe Homesteads in coming days, Hawaii County spokesman Kevin Dayton said.

AUSTIN, Texas — A twenty-four year old Mexican national named Heriberto Montoya-Merino was deported back to Mexico earlier this month  by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Montoya-Merino was wanted in connection with a murder back in Mexico.

Montoya-Merino had been residing in Bradley Beach, New Jersey until he was arrested on November 19, 2013. The Bradley Beach Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office coordinated with ERO to detain him and process the deportation order, which was issued by an immigration judge in July of this year. ICE Air Operations (IAO) arranged a charter flight from New Jersey to Texas, where ERO officers turned him over to Mexican authorities at the Brownsville Port of Entry. FALFURRIAS, Texas—U.S. Border Patrol Agent Tyler Robledo was killed in an apparent head-on collision with another vehicle while on duty in the South Texas border region. The driver of the second vehicle also killed in the accident.

Robledo was assigned to the Carrizo Springs Border Patrol Station. Carrizo Springs is located northwest of Laredo, Texas and southeast of Eagle Pass, Texas. On August 13th, 2012, a pitbull mix was shot by police in broad daylight in the East Village, as its owner was collapsed on the sidewalk suffering a seizure. That pitbull, Star, nipped at a woman and ran towards an officer at one point, in an apparent attempt to protect owner Lech Stankiewicz (you can see very graphic video of the shooting here). The dog was shot in the head, resulting in her losing an eye as well as sustaining “soft tissue, bone, head trauma, and eye damage.” No one thought she would survive the ordeal, and most of us seemed to forget about her—except for Charlie Cifarelli. The one-inch puss caterpillar is named for its cute cat-like fur, but it is the most venomous caterpillar in the United States.

Redding police have arrested a man accused of killing and cooking his estranged girlfriend’s dog and serving the animal to her in a meal.

The suspect, Ryan Eddy Watenpaugh of Palo Cedro, denied killing or cooking the victim’s missing Pomeranian. But he admitted placing dog paws on the victim’s doorstep, police said.

Watenpaugh, 34, was arrested Thursday by law enforcement officers from three agencies, police said.
