WASHINGTON (AP) — Police arrested a man who steered his tiny, one-person helicopter onto the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, surprising spring tourists and prompting a temporary lockdown of the Capitol Visitor Center.
Capitol Police didn’t immediately identify the pilot or comment on his motive, but a Florida postal carrier named Doug Hughes took responsibility for the stunt on a website where he said he was delivering letters to all 535 members of Congress in order to draw attention to campaign finance corruption. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Caretakers of Abraham Lincoln’s tomb are on the defensive over an unflattering critique in National Geographic magazine and looming budget cuts that could threaten management of the historic site, even as they commemorate the 150th anniversary of the U.S. Civil War president’s assassination.
For the state that calls itself the “Land of Lincoln,” the timing of a ceremony Wednesday in Springfield to mark his death is awkward because Illinois faces a financial crisis and Gov. Bruce Rauner has proposed eliminating the state Historic Preservation Agency that manages sites including the tomb as it currently exists. He would roll the agency into another department. A year or so ago I wrote about a man who set himself on fire on the lawn facing the capitol. It was covered very briefly by the MSM then dropped immediately. His family issued a statement saying he was mentally ill and that was it. His message lost in a sea of capitalist, mammon worshiping loathing. Free Thought Project – by Justin Gardner
In most professions, intelligence and education are desirable qualities. Not so in U.S. police departments, where the brutal, oppressive nature would be threatened by such acts as questioning and thinking.
Informed readers already know that police departments do not hire people with high IQs, as The Free Thought Project previously reported. Continue reading “How “Just Doing My Job” is Creating and Bolstering a Dystopian Police State”
