GOP House leaders are preparing a huge appropriations bill for a vote next week — and top GOP legislators want to include a rider that could allow employers to replace at least 100,000 blue-collar Americans with up to 264,000 foreign temporary H-2B workers.

The plan would actually cost taxpayers billions of dollars each year, because the unemployed Americans workers won’t pay taxes, but would get unemployment checks and welfare aid from the taxpayers.   Continue reading “GOP Legislators Push Plan That Could Replace Americans, Import 264,000 Foreign Workers”

NBC News has learned that early Saturday the FBI searched the Riverside, California home of the man authorities believe originally bought the assault rifles used in the San Bernardino shooting rampage that killed 14.

During the search, neighbors say, agents cut open the garage door with blow torches, used bomb-sniffing dogs, and temporarily detained the man’s father and younger brother. The man’s father told NBC News Saturday afternoon that he does not know where his son is and declined further comment.   Continue reading “FBI searches home of Farook friend who bought guns”

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Facebook, Google and Twitter are stepping up efforts to combat online propaganda and recruiting by Islamic militants, but the Internet companies are doing it quietly to avoid the perception that they are helping the authorities police the Web.

On Friday, Facebook Inc said it took down a profile that the company believed belonged to San Bernardino shooter Tashfeen Malik, who with her husband is accused of killing 14 people in a mass shooting that the FBI is investigating as an “act of terrorism.”   Continue reading “Social media companies step up battle against militant propaganda”

BERLIN — Germany’s foreign intelligence agency believes Saudi Arabia’s ambitious defense minister could endanger the Gulf kingdom’s ties with regional allies by attempting to cement his place in the royal succession, according to a memo released Wednesday.

It is unusual for the BND spy agency to publicly release such a blunt assessment on a country that is considered an ally of the West. Germany has long-standing political and economic ties with Saudi Arabia.   Continue reading “German Intelligence Warns Saudi Arabia Is ‘Destabilizing Arab World’”

How much time does it take to count over 5,000 guns? Apparently, 6 weeks is not enough, as a South Carolina police department discovered facing an “ass-load of guns” captured in one house in October. The other question is, how they were collected?

Brent Nicholson, 51, of Chesterfield County, South Carolina, was arrested in late October after local law enforcement discovered a collection of weapons and other, possibly stolen, materials and equipment at his home and at properties belonging to his family.   Continue reading “‘An a**-load of guns’: Cops still counting weapons seized in S. National Organizations With Anti-Gun Policies

The following organizations have lent monetary, grassroots or some other type of direct support to anti-gun organizations. In many instances, these organizations lent their name in support of specific campaigns to pass anti-gun legislation such as the March 1995 HCI “Campaign to Protect Sane Gun Laws.” Many of these organizations were listed as “Campaign Partners,” for having pledged to fight any efforts to repeal the Brady Act and the Clinton “assault weapons” ban. All have officially endorsed anti-gun positions.   Continue reading “List of Anti Gun Groups, People”

Tashfeen Malik’s path to accused mass killer in California began in a small city on the Indus River in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

It was from here, when she was a toddler, that she moved with her father Gulzar 25 years ago to Saudi Arabia, where he became more deeply religious, more conservative and more hardline, according to a family member.   Continue reading “Investigators piece together portrait of Pakistani woman in shooting massacre”

New York Times

The New York Times is running an editorial on its front page on Saturday, the first time the paper has done so since 1920, calling for greater regulation on guns in the aftermath of a spate of mass shootings.

The editorial, headlined “The Gun Epidemic,” describes it as “a moral outrage and a national disgrace that people can legally purchase weapons designed specifically to kill with brutal speed and efficiency.” It suggests drastically reducing the number of firearms, and “eliminating some large categories of weapons and ammunition.”   Continue reading “Gun Debate Yields Page One Editorial”

On December 3, The Washington Post reported that gun crime has been on the decline for about 20 years, except for high-profile shootings in gun-free zones; WaPo claims those shootings are on the increase.

According to WaPo, “In 1993, there were seven homicides by firearm for every 100,000 Americans. … By 2013, that figure had fallen by nearly half, to 3.6 [per 100,000].”   Continue reading “Washington Post: Gun Violence Declining, Except in Gun-Free Zones”
