The Israeli army will put thousands of extra troops on alert in the West Bank ahead of Friday prayers at Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, fearing that clashes over security measures implemented at the holy site will spread.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Thursday that it would be putting five extra battalions on call in the West Bank, adding that they could be deployed if backup is needed, the Jerusalem Post reported. A person driving a black SUV hopped the sidewalk and hit multiple pedestrians on the Upper East Side of Manhattan Thursday.

Tuesday, police arrested Yvette Felarca, a Berkeley middle-school teacher who is one of the leaders of the Antifa group By Any Means Necessary. Felarca is charged with inciting a riot last June in Sacramento, CA. From Berkeleyside:
Felarca was captured on video hitting a member of the Traditional Worker’s Party, a white supremacist group that had taken out permits for a rally on the west steps of the state capitol. Felarca, a member of the group By Any Means Necessary, and other counter-protesters blocked the rally by chasing and hitting and even stabbing members of the Traditional Worker’s Party.

The city of Chicago is expected to pay $500,000 to settle a police brutality case involving a woman who suffered a miscarriage after being repeatedly shocked with a Taser by a patrol officer with a troubling history, city records show.
The amount appears on the agenda for an upcoming City Council Finance Committee meeting. The settlement requires approval from the entire council, which is scheduled to meet next week.

Police received an unusual complaint Sunday morning, when a self-described drug dealer from Florida said that he wanted to file a police report after someone allegedly stole his cocaine.

A Métis man who opted to use Indigenous therapies for his terminal cancer instead of chemotherapy was initially turned down for followup care by a specialist, but the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency is now encouraging specialists to accept patients using traditional practices.
It all started when 61-year-old Ric Richardson, a business owner and university student in the northern Saskatchewan village of Green Lake, was diagnosed by a Saskatoon oncologist in February with Stage 4 lung cancer. A former NYPD sergeant was convicted Tuesday of throwing semen on a female co-worker’s leg at the police department headquarters.

(NEW YORK) — A person who reported eating at a Chipotle in northern Virginia has tested positive for norovirus. But health officials say that’s not yet enough to determine the cause of the roughly 60 reported illnesses it has identified.
The location in Sterling, Virginia, was temporarily closed for cleaning this week after customers reported symptoms that Chipotle said were consistent with norovirus. That sent shares of the restaurant chain down, underscoring how vulnerable its reputation remains almost two years after an E. coli outbreak that sent its sales plunging. A Hialeah, Florida man took matters into his own hands to remove AT&T workers from his property on Wednesday.
Jorge Jove, a 64-year-old retired Miami-Dade firefighter, shot the tires of two AT&T trucks, as seen in video captured of the incident and posted on Twitter.

The city of Toronto estimated that it would cost $65,000 to build stairs for a local park, but one resident took it upon himself to build the stairs—and only spent $550.
The city has now threatened to tear down the stairs, CTV News reports.
Retired mechanic Adi Astl decided to build stairs that lead to a community garden in Tom Riley Park, in Etobicoke, Ontario after several neighbors fell and hurt themselves trying to walk on the steep path. How did the term “to boycott” originate?
Northern Ireland of the 1880’s was mostly owned by relatively rich landowners, many of whom were of English descent and Protestants, while the land was worked by tenant farmers, mainly Irish and Catholic. As predictably happens whenever one group controls the assets and there are numerous asset-less workers, the tenants were often exploited. O.J. Simpson is about to be a free man once again.
Simpson has been granted parole by a unanimous vote the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners, and is eligible to walk out the gates of Lovelock Correctional Facility by Oct. 1 of this year. Simpson had been found not guilty of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1995, and the attention surrounding this parole hearing echoed the frenzy that surrounded that mid-‘90s cultural touchstone. Pet lovers are barking mad over a little-known city rule that makes dog-sitting illegal in New York.
Health Department rules ban anyone from taking money to care for an animal outside a licensed kennel — and the department has warned a popular pet-sitting app that its users are breaking the law.
