My encounter with a cop today.

Today at 12:30pm, I was heading to work, about a quarter mile from my house when a police SUV when down the road going in the opposite direction I was driving in. He quickly turned around, put on his lights and pulled me over. I have lived in the same town for forty-five years, and in the thirty-one years I’ve been driving, I have never been pulled over by any police officer in my town.

He asked for the usual driver’s license, registration, and insurance. He briefly looked at all three, then says: “The reason I pulled you over is because your inspection sticker expired in December of 2017.”

I replied: “That is because my vehicle is exempt from inspection.” He looks at me like I’m making it up.

I told him: “Check the NJ state website, it clearly says: ‘The following vehicles are exempt from inspection requirements (N.J.A.C. 13:20-7.2): Gasoline powered vehicles registered passenger, model year 1995 & older with a GVWR 8,500 pounds or less.'”

He then seems confused and says to me: “Uh, what year is your truck?” (mind you he is holding my registration in his hand which clearly states it’s a 2000). When I told him that it’s year 2000, he looks rather embarrassed and says: “I’m a cop, not a car guy. Have a good day!”

I then proceeded to work thinking to myself that a cop should at least know the laws he is supposedly trying to enforce. Oh well, at least I didn’t get searched, pulled from my vehicle, and shot to death to the sound of “Stop resisting!”

  1. They sure as hell don’t hire them for their brains. Actually, I think, that’s the last thing they hire them for.

  2. How the hell did he see an inspection sticker at the closing speed of two vehicles heading in different directions ?
    LIE #1

    I’m a cop, not a car guy
    LIE #2

Not being able to read a registration, illiterate cop?, too dumb to tie his own shoes (were his boots pull ons?)

What this was , is a … I need to smell you , see you , hear you talk .. hoping for a DUI of any sort . This was a bogus pull over hopeful he would be a hero to his union and judge as the judge gets 60% of your fine in his pension

    You just got scoped out

  3. Inspection sticker? That would be a terrible crime that would be expensive too.
This guy was just hoping to wrack up some buckaroos.

  4. The following vehicles are exempt from inspection requirements (N.J.A.C. 13:20-7.2): Gasoline powered vehicles registered passenger, model year “1995” & older with a GVWR 8,500 pounds or less.’”……..mind you he is holding my registration in his hand which clearly states it’s a “2000”…..so according to my calculations…you were in violation??? Did I miss something or could the cop just not do the math??? In my world a 2000 is not older than a 1995. Correct me if I missed something. By the way… glad you left unscathed.

    1. Your math is correct, the cop is dumb and it was a shake down. He should be at Wally World greeting folks at the door.

  5. Inspection sticker my ass, he was shaking you down… just wanted to get to know his trencher buddy a little better.

You just met the new NSA circus act.
