Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you, Henry, Laura, JD, #1, and all you Trenchers!!!
Driving those snakes out one at a time.
Hey #1, my first trip overseas was Ireland too and I couldn’t agree with you more about the scenic countryside, rich history and warm friendly people. In a previous lifetime I even proposed marriage at Mahon Falls(go figure) and honeymooned there. What a sap!
Thanks, Martist. It was the one place I most wanted to go to after seeing ‘The Quiet Man’ as a kid. I’ve only been to one other place that I liked even better… Australia – Cairns, specifically. I would LOVE to go back there a just spend a few months at O’Brien’s Irish Pub on the beach, drinking Kilkenny Irish Cream Ale. It was truly international there (the pub), more people from all over Europe and other parts of the world than there were Aussies.
True story: I walked into a St. Paddy’s Day parade in NYC once and while it was somewhere near Harlem some black folks tried to join the parade and then some cops kicked them out because they “weren’t Irish.” (BTW I am part Irish as well as Scots-Irish).
Only partly, DL. What little I know of my ancestry was told to me by my mother, and it wasn’t real specific (no details to speak of). Mainly Swedish & German, with some French & Irish thrown in. That’s about all I know.
Not a National holiday, just “getting drunk” for a Catholic Saint. Cheers!
Actually, I’m just home “chillin’. It ain’t hard to do when it’s gonna get down to the teens tonight in some areas.
National “Hangover Day”, tomorrow! National “Lowest Production of the Year Day”, tomorrow! 😆 At least with other drunken holidays, of which, they all are, we get the next day off!
