HEAR IT: Florida robbery victim transferred to 911’s voicemail during violent home invasion

Daily News

A desperate robbing victim called 911 when four armed men broke into his Florida home — and was promptly transferred to voicemail.

Apparently, a dispatcher tried and failed to transfer the caller from the fire line to the police line. That’s when the assaulted victim was asked to leave a message instead, FOX 13 in Tampa reported.

On the call’s recording, a woman screams in the background as the voicemail states “If this is an emergency, hang up and dial 911. Thank you for calling.”

Unable to reach operators, the New Port Richey homeowner shot one of thugs after they pistol-whipped a woman and threatened a baby, Tampa Bay’s WTSP reported.

The attack happened earlier this week. Pasco County police said four men — Joseph Rich, Michael Reverdes, Steven Reverdes and an unidentified man — broke into the home looking for cash and prescription pills.

The thieves beat up the three adults inside and pointed a gun at a baby, claiming they would kill the infant if they didn’t get what they wanted, police said.

The homeowner called for help, but when the dispatcher sent him to voicemail instead of the live police line, the caller shot Steven Reverdes in the back.

The call recorded the violent struggle: A man screamed expletives and a woman screamed in terror.

When the caller was finally connected to a dispatcher, the homeowner admitted that he shot somebody.

Three of the four suspects were arrested: left to right, 31-year-old Joseph Rich, 31-year-old Michael Reverdes and 33 year-old Steven Reverdes.

“Somebody just came into my house. Four people just came into my house. They beat the s-t out of me and my wife and my stepmother, and they robbed us,” he said, according to the taped call.

Officers arrested the three identified men, while the fourth is still at large. It’s unlikely the homeowner will face charges for shooting the attacker, police said.

The Pasco County Sherriff’s Office is looking into how the call mix-up happened, but insists that the problem didn’t slow down response time.

  1. I do not call 911, I get 357. Read the book “Dial 911 and Die”, obtained at jpfo.org. It has all the answers.

  2. “The Pasco County Sherriff’s Office…. insists that the problem didn’t slow down response time.”

That’s funny. If he didn’t shoot one of them, his whole family would probably be dead right now.

Is it legal to publish photos of the criminals if they’re not white? I’ve never seen that before.

  3. “Unable to reach operators, the New Port Richey homeowner shot one of thugs after they pistol-whipped a woman and threatened a baby…”

HE HAD A GUN! WHY THE HELL WOULD HE WANT THE COPS INVOLVED???

    idiot.

  4. so he was originally connected to the fire guys?
fine – a dozen firemen with axes & stuff would have worked!

and afaik the fire brigade have never shown up to a call and beaten or killed the homeowner.
    so that’s a plus.

  5. “Florida robbery victim transferred to 911′s voicemail during violent home invasion”

No surprise there. This is the kind of stuff that starts to happen when you turn into a Communist country.

    Suicide hotline, please hold.
