Homeowner Shoots Man Who Assaulted Him, Renders First Aid Using Med Kit, Then Drives Him to Hospital

A homeowner in Old Hickory, Tennessee is apparently what most people would call ‘prepared’.

The man, identified as Joshua Dobson, apparently got into an argument with his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, identified as Michael Young over the well being of the girlfriend’s child, of whom Young is the father.

That escalated into Young coming to Dobson’s home, with another man, identified as Troy Weiss. Weiss and Young assaulted Dobson. Fortunately, Dobson was armed and able to open fire on the pair of suspects, striking Weiss twice.

Dobson then grabbed a medical kit from his home and began performing first aid on Weiss. Once he was stabilized, Dobson drove him to the hospital.

While at the hospital Dobson received treatment for a deep gash on his head suffered during the assault.

Weiss is in critical condition, but is expected to survive.

Weiss and Young will both be facing felony assault charges for this role in the incident.

This is the 44th defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state Tennessee and the 1,286th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.

This incident is the one of the most common types of defensive gun uses. That is, one in which no one was killed. Despite this being one of the most common types of defensive gun uses, these incidents are often not included in statistics about defensive gun uses. Many of these statistics and studies focus solely on justifiable homicides, which represent only a fraction of total defensive gun uses.

  1. And as Dobson rendered medical attention to Weiss the city sanitation department was called out to clean up the brown streak left by Young fleeing the scene of the crime.

  2. Well that is great. Now he can sue you for your troubles, and the next person he robs might not have a gun, so they can thank you for that too.
