Husband’s moving essay in appreciation of his stay-at-home wife becomes web hit after he calculates that her workload should equal an annual salary of $73,960

A husband has penned a moving essay celebrating his wife and everything she does for their family as a stay-at-home mother.

Steven Nelms writes in the essay’s introduction that he can’t afford his wife to be a stay-at home.

‘I don’t at all mean to offend anyone with this post,’ he writes. ‘I’d like to explain exactly what that means so that no one thinks I’m in any way devaluing Stay-At-Home Moms.’

‘On the contrary, I mean that I quite literally cannot afford my wife to be staying at home.’

Nelms told the Independent Journal Review that his wife, Glorianna, stays at home with the couple’s two-year-old son Ezra because of high child care costs.

But Nelms said working has always been a part of Gloriana’s life, who had been employed since she was 14 and was contributing to her family’s income when she was 17.

‘Getting a paycheck was significant part of feeling valued and appreciated for all the hard work she did to provide for herself and help her family,’ he sad.

So Nelms, from Plano, Texas, decided to write an essay, which was posted on We Are Glory, in which he would break-down the monetary value of everything his wife does to care for the family.

‘Yes, my wife is my son’s mother and it is a natural result of being a parent to love and care for your own child,’ he writes. ‘There is also a very quantifiable dollar amount that can be attributed to the services rendered.’

‘I am in no way trying to simplify, objectify, or devalue the priceless love of a mother for her child,’ he wrote.

‘But let’s be real. Pay day feels good for a reason. Because you’re seeing your hard work appreciated in a tangible way that lets you “treat yo self”’.

Nelms estimates that the childcare his wife provides is worth $36,660 a year, the annual-salary for a full-time nanny.

He also estimates this his wife does $5,200 worth of cleaning a year, $12,480 of cooking, and $13,520 for buying groceries and running errands.

After adding that his wife helps deal with the family’s finances and does the laundry, he concludes that his wife’s annual salary should be $73,960.

‘I would have to make over $100k to even begin to be able to cover my living expenses as well as employ my wife as a Stay-At-Home Mom!’ he writes.

‘In short, I can’t afford for my wife to stay at home. And I’ve tragically failed to show my wife the appreciation that she deserves.’

Nelms admits in the essay that he has felt ‘ashamed’ every time he has ever made his wife feel guilty of humored when she has bought something for herself.

‘I am ashamed that she has ever felt like she doesn’t have just as much right to our income as I do. The fact of the matter is that our income doesn’t even come close to covering what she does for our family.’

‘She loves me, loves our son, and loves our family, so obviously she isn’t doing any of those things for a paycheck or even for recognition.’

‘But it certainly doesn’t hurt to know that as a Stay-At-Home Mom her appraised salary is nearly double my actual income.’

Nelms concludes the essay by telling his wife ‘you are more precious than rubies.’

  1. This is a GREAT story!! Stay-at-home Moms are no longer the norm, which is not only sad, but it’s done by design. That design is meant to break up the nucleus of the family unit, and that nucleus is “Mom”.
Unfortunately, the “women’s lib” movement (brought to us by the Elite to break up the family unit) brainwashed women into believing that they were being suppressed and oppressed by the very “job” that was given to them by their Creator.
The Mother is, by far, more superior (in the survival of the family unit) than the Husband. The husband goes to work to supply for the family, then comes home and sits in front of the tube and scratches his gonads while drinking a cold beer (and there’s NOTHING wrong with that). But Mom, especially if she has to work, she still has to come home and do the wash, do the dishes, do the bills, do her husband, etc..
Yes, sir. The MOST important job on the Earth is the job of a stay-at-home Mother. But then satan crept in with soap-operas for Mom to watch while ironing and doing the wash, making Mom fantasize about extra-marital relationships. Then came the women’s lib movement, making Mom “divorce” her natural role in a marriage. Gawd, I’d better stop here.
This story, once again, is great.

  2. $73,960 is the gross pay.

Now let’s get to the deductions:
-$50,00 per year for practicing the psychiatry that’s necessary to live with a female.
-$20,000 per year for enduring the endless complaints about not being the Prince Charming of her imagination.
-$5,000 per year for the bathroom being cluttered with a thousand beauty chemicals, panties soaking in Woolite in the sink, and nylons over the shower curtain rod. (and you’re getting a good deal on the $5000 bill)
-$1000 per year for the hot rollers running up the electric bill, and endless gabbing running up the phone bill
-$1000 per year for making me watch romantic comedies instead of action, war, and westerns.

“That puts you $3,040 in debt, my love, so why don’t you work that off by keeping the house clean, and maybe cooking something once in a while?”

      1. No, I was real happy about deciding to throw her the hell out of here. Best choice I ever made.

  3. This country isn’t “kid friendly” anymore IMO. In this country, KIDS = DEBT. Sorry to say. Sorry to say that $$$ is more important in this country than children. What country would put it’s kids, the future of the country, in ONE TRILLION DEBT with student loans, while other countries, realizing kids ARE the country in the future, are making college FREE? Then kids get out of college, DON’T get married, DON’T have kids, because how can they afford marriage, children, a house, car(s), etc…when they have $100,000.00 to pay off right off the get-go?

In this country, college is for the wealthy. Period. College in the U.S. is now strictly for the wealthy. That is, unless you want to go $100,000.00 in debt at age 20.

  4. My wife is a Stay at home mom and I wouldnt have it any other way.. I also love it when she laughs her butt off at the so called “liberated” women ,, and says to them .. stay the F-ck out of my business and stop trying to screw it up for me

She loves being a woman, and I love that about her ,,, every chance i get

hey she even wears dresses, guys.. when was the last time you saw a woman in a skirt? or a dress? yeah in the cold north eastern weather where we never see a nice set of legs … ever

funny to watch all the jealous “independent” (LOL) women

one of the many reasons why shes my wife, and that i love her
