Madison businesses must have security cameras or face consequences

MADISON, Miss. — Madison businesses will soon be required to install and maintain security cameras or face consequences, the Madison County Journal reported.

The mayor and Board of Aldermen passed the ordinance during a meeting Tuesday night. The ordinance will go into effect in 30 days.

Renee Burns, manager at Hop and Habanas said she thinks the city’s camera mandate could force other shops to close.

“Surveillance cameras are very expensive, to get everything set up and it could have people close their stores because they can’t afford it,” Burns said.

The ordinance affects businesses that have 25 or more parking spaces or a 2,000 square-foot space, the newspaper reported.

Businesses will have one year to comply or face a $500 fine and/or up to 90 days of jail. The newspaper said that each day of noncompliance is a different violation.

  1. I guess this is another example of how we aren’t even considered to own our own property in the “Land of the Free.”

  2. They smoke way too much pot in Madison. What are they hoping to see? The ghost of George Michael pleasuring himself in an alley?
