NYPD and FDNY have bench clearing brawl at charity hockey game

NEW YORK CITY (INTELLIHUB) —  It seems as if the NYPD cant even have a friendly charity hockey game without getting in a fight.

A charity hockey game between New York City’s police and fire departments at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, turned into an all out war when members of both teams cleared the benches for a brawl.  

The annual N.Y.P.D., F.D.N.Y. game is organized in hopes to raise money for the Children’s Benefit Fund and the New York Police and Fire Widows, among other causes.

It has not been reported who exactly started the fight, but at one point during the brawl, fans could be heard cheering “PD SUCKS!, PD SUCKS!” from the stands.

When looking at some videos that were posted to Instagram, it does seem as if a player from the police department was the first to rush the bench of the opposing team.

Newsday reports the fights began during the second period of the match at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale on Sunday as both teams were tied 3-3. The NYPD eventually won 8-5.
