President Barack Obama will hold a meeting at the White House on Friday with experts from both political parties to discuss the Trans-Pacific Partnership, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said on Friday.

The meeting will include four former Secretaries of State -Henry Kissinger, James Baker, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright – among others.

Earnest said the meeting will focus on the Pacific Rim trade deal and setting the “rules of the road” on trade in Asia.

  1. Being on the western shore of the Atlantic Ocean I have not taken too much notice of TPP but it seems to be meeting less opposition than TTIP in Europe, where the political elite are behind the deal but business and opposition politicians in the new nationalist movements are solidly against.
Lasy year the European Union might just have been able to push it through against the will of the people, but with the UK swinging towards a vote to leave, Germany and Sweden in states of civil unrest, France effectively bankrupt while Spain and Italy are as chaotic as ever, while the smaller nations are ignoring the Brussels diktat and building razor wire fences to enforce border controls, the bureaucrats are struggling to hold things together as they are. They can’t afford another fight.
