Oklahoma Looks To Ban Alcohol Sales To DUI Convicts

halac2Down Trend – by Brian Anderson

The state of Okalahoma is on a roll with introducing unconstitutional unenforceable laws as of late. Yesterday Downtrend’s Robert Gehl told us how the state wants to ban people from wearing hoodies and today we learn that they also want to keep people who have been convicted of DUI from buying and consuming alcohol.

Fox 25 reports that state Senator Patrick Anderson (no relation) has introduced legislation that would further punish those convicted of driving under the influence:

Senate Bill 30 asks the department to develop a procedure to order the charged individual abstain from alcohol consumption, and not be allowed to purchase alcohol for a time determined by the judge.

But wait, it gets better. Not only can’t someone with a DUI conviction get their hands on alcohol, the law would also make “straw purchases” illegal:

The bill could also form a law that would charge you with a felony should you be caught giving or buying alcohol for a person you know is under alcohol restriction. That felony charge would come with a fine of up to $1,000, or up to a year in prison.

At this point, you’re probably laughing at another do-nothing silly law from a busybody democrat, but the sad thing is, Patrick Anderson is actually a Republican. Not only is he besmirching the great Anderson name, he’s also giving the GOP a black eye with this frivolous democratic-style bill.

Equally as shocking is that yesterday’s “hoodie ban” bill was introduced by fellow Republican Don Barrington. Both of these proposed laws are as stupid as assault weapons bans and magazine capacity limits. Neither of them will make people safer, they both will create criminals out of law-abiding citizens, and each of them makes a mockery out of the Bill of Rights. What the hell is going on with Oklahoma Republicans?

The law contains no carve out for religious practice or food consumption so anyone taking communion with wine or eating a piece of rum cake could potentially be looking at another felony charge if they already have a DUI on the books.

The bill also suggests a person charged with a DUI will be ordered a replacement identification card that will bear the words “Alcohol Restricted” on the front and will be required to carry throughout the remainder of their probation.

If someone wants to drink, they’ll find a way to get alcohol. Remember how well Prohibition worked? Driving drunk is already illegal, and comes with stiff penalties, and yet people still do it. This law won’t change that fact in any way. It will however end up making felons out of people would innocently offer a friend a beer at a Super Bowl party or BBQ.

Shame on Patrick Anderson for introducing this bill that looks like it was crafted by Dianne Feinstein and Michael Bloomberg after a night of sweaty sex. And shame on me for putting that image into your head.

  3. so an adult caught buying liquor for an adult felon will then become a felon themselves or will it start out as a misdemeanor? are they going to have sting operations like they do at stores selling alcohol to minors? when does the insanity stop?
