The Washington state Supreme Court has upheld Seattle’s tax on gun and ammunition sales, according to an opinion issued Thursday morning.
The justices ruled 8-1 to affirm a previous decision by King County Superior Court, which sided with the city against opponents, including the National Rifle Association.

Mark Cuban on Wednesday condemned a federal agency’s plan to give a pharmaceutical company controlled by a Chinese billionaire exclusive rights to a new liver cancer treatment developed with U.S. government researchers.
The Dallas Mavericks owner, himself a billionaire, told HuffPost the decision “ignored” the need to use taxpayer-funded research in a way that advantages Americans.
“USA inc has got to start operating in the best interests of all of us shareholders,” the “Shark Tank” host wrote in an email, after retweeting a link to a HuffPost report on the licensing plans. “Our taxes should be an investment that expects a financial and social return.”

The lies are usually about the most important policies and actions of the United States government regarding international relations — foreign policy matters, such as wars, treaties, and economic sanctions. In the past, they were lies about matters such as that North Vietnam had attacked the USS Maddox in the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, and that Chile’s President Salvador Allende opposed democracy, and that Iraq’s President Saddam Hussein was «six months away from developing a [nuclear] weapon», and that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s «conquest of land» regarding Crimea had happened, and is the basic reason for the economic sanctions the US has placed against Russia.
On August 2nd, US President Donald Trump signed into law increased sanctions against Russia, which had been passed 98-2 in the Senate and 419-3 in the House. Stanford University is slated to offer a class this fall called “White Identity Politics,” during which students will “survey the field of whiteness studies” and discuss the “possibilities of … abolishing whiteness,” according to the course description.

Around 200,000 US troops are stationed in 177 countries throughout the world. The forces use several hundred bases, more than 1,000 if the figure includes overseas warehouse and installations. The US may need more soon, with its presence and involvement in armed conflicts on the rise.
It was reported on August 7 that the Pentagon plans to conduct airstrikes on Islamic State (IS) in the Philippines. This move will be part of the effort to rout IS militants who occupied Marawi, a city in the south of the Philippines, in May, prompting President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law in the entire southern region of Mindanao and ask the US for help. WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for ordering the United States to slash its diplomatic staff in Russia, remarks likely to rekindle criticism of Trump’s kid-gloves handling of Putin.
Breaking nearly two weeks of silence on Putin’s July 30 order cutting U.S. embassy and consulate staff by nearly two thirds, Trump said: “I’m very thankful that he let go of a large number of people because now we have a smaller payroll.”
Trump said “there’s no real reason for them to go back” and “we’re going to save a lot of money,” in response to Putin’s Cold War-style move, differing from the reactions of other presidents in similar circumstances in the past. TALLAHASSEE – A high-ranking Florida Highway Patrol official wants every trooper under his command to write at least two more tickets an hour, an order a key legislator says is against state law.
“The patrol wants to see two citations each hour,” Maj. Mark Welch wrote in an e-mail to the troopers in an eight-county region based in Tallahassee that includes nearly 100 miles of Interstate 10. “This is not a quota; it is what we are asking you to do to support this important initiative.”

BEIJING (Reuters) – If North Korea launches an attack that threatens the United States then China should stay neutral, but if the United States attacks first and tries to overthrow North Korea’s government China will stop them, a Chinese state-run newspaper said on Friday.
President Donald Trump ratcheted up his rhetoric toward North Korea and its leader on Thursday, warning Pyongyang against attacking Guam or U.S. allies after it disclosed plans to fire missiles over Japan to land near the U.S. Pacific territory. WHAT IS 5G?
5G refers to the “5th generation” wireless technology. Its intended purpose is to provide faster and higher capacity data transmissions to carry the massive amount of data that will be generated from the Internet of Things (IoT) and for faster video streaming. That said, no one is yet clear about how 5G will be achieved, so at present, it is being used more as a marketing term than a reality.
What is clear is that 5g will include the higher Millimeter Wave frequencies never before used for public Internet and communications technology. These waves do not travel easily through buildings so will require millions of new cell towers. The wireless telecom industry is aggressively seeking to outfit nearly every lamppost and utility post around the country with a wireless “small cell” antenna potentially beaming hazardous radiation next to, or into our homes, 24/7.

As the global energy paradigm is undergoing the next great transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, a new report shows that fossil fuels continue to be propped up by governments with staggering amounts of subsidies.
A study published in the World Development journal, by researchers from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), found that fossil fuel subsidies amounted to $5.3 trillion dollars in 2015, rising from $4.9 trillion in 2013.
