An on-duty New York City police officer was killed on Wednesday after a man walked up to her police vehicle and began to fire shots through the window, authorities said.

Officer Miosotis Familia, a 12-year veteran assigned to the New York Police Department‘s 46th Precinct’s Anti-Crime unit, was taken to a Bronx area hospital where she later died, according to the NYPD. She was 48-years-old.

Six families were left fuming after they were ordered out of their cottages located next to Chris Christie’s private beach under the threat of being arrested while the New Jersey governor and his family soaked up some sun.

Howard and Betty Height were among the families told by police officers on Friday night that they had to leave their Island Beach State Park beach cottage or they’d be arrested.

Quick action from a Hoonah boy saved a fishing party from a charging brown bear on June 18, the Empire has learned through Alaska State Troopers and family members.

It was the first Defense of Life or Property (DLP) killing in the Hoonah area this year, according to trooper spokesperson Megan Peters.

When the attack occurred, Elliot Clark, then 11 years old, was walking through the woods near Game Creek in Port Frederick several miles south of Hoonah. SEOUL, South Korea — The U.S. believes North Korea fired its first intercontinental ballistic missile on Tuesday, two U.S. officials confirmed to NBC News — a significant step forward in Pyongyang’s weapons program.

The ICBM, which is believed to be “two-stage,” officials said, would have a range of at least 3,500 miles, and thus be capable of reaching Alaska.

An amended version of Florida’s controversial ‘stand your ground’ law, which shifts the burden of proof from the defendant to the prosecutor in self-defense cases, has been ruled unconstitutional by a state judge.

German police have seized numerous weapons as well as “unknown chemicals” in the house and garage of a man detained on suspicion of planning a “major offense” against the forthcoming G20 meeting in Hamburg.

Local Hamburg police were alerted that a German citizen residing in the northern city of Rostock was preparing a “major offense” against the upcoming G20 summit. Following the tip, police officers raided several houses and a garage in Rostock. My reason for writing this book is very simple: I would like to keep the record straight. I want to put in permanent form the full story of my experiences as a Lend-Lease expediter and liaison officer with the Russians during the war, when I served for two crucial years, from May 1942 to June 1944, both at Newark Airport and at the big air base at Grand Falls, Montana.

I went into the Army as a businessman in my forties and a veteran of World War I. From the First, as my story shows, I worked wholeheartedly on behalf of the Russians because, like everyone else, I considered it my duty to do so.
