SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea’s latest launches of several suspected anti-ship missiles were short-range and landed well short of past efforts, but they still served as a defiant message for its enemies that Pyongyang will continue to pursue a weapons program that has rattled its neighbors and Washington.

The projectiles were fired Thursday from the North Korean eastern coastal town of Wonsan and likely flew about 200 kilometers (125 miles), South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said. They landed in waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan, where U.S. aircraft carriers USS Carl Vinson and USS Ronald Reagan participated in joint exercises with the South Korean navy that ended earlier this week.   Continue reading “S. AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — A young woman charged with leaking U.S. government secrets to a reporter poses no flight risk if she’s released from pre-trial confinement, her parents said Wednesday, though they fear prosecutors will seek to use the case to send a tough message from the Trump administration.

It will be difficult for 25-year-old Reality Winner to get a fair trial if her case becomes “this big thing where we’re not going to tolerate leakers,” Winner’s mother, Billie Winner-Davis, told The Associated Press in an interview.   Continue reading “Alleged leaker’s parents fear Trump will be tough on case”

LONDON (AP) — Polling stations across Britain opened for national elections amid heightened security Thursday as one senior police official said the country was living through “unprecedented times” following a series of terror attacks in recent weeks.

Authorities asked people to be alert and report any concerns to police as voters choose 650 lawmakers for the House of Commons. Atrocities near Parliament, a Manchester concert venue and London Bridge have left Britain on high alert, with the official threat level at severe, the second-highest rating, indicating an attack is “highly likely.”   Continue reading “Polls open in UK election after campaign marred by attacks”

After State Department officials and historians assembled in Washington, D.C. to discuss the 1967 war in the Middle East, I am compelled to speak out about one of U.S. historyís most shocking cover-ups.

On June 8, 1967, Israel attacked our proud naval shipóthe USS Libertyókilling 34 American servicemen and wounding 172. Those men were then betrayed and left to die by our own government.   Continue reading “LBJ Left USS Liberty Crew To Die”

Bryce Lockwood, Marine staff sergeant, Russian-language expert, recipient of the Silver Star for heroism, ordained Baptist minister, is shouting into the phone.

“I’m angry! I’m seething with anger! Forty years, and I’m seething with anger!”

Lockwood was aboard the USS Liberty, a super-secret spy ship on station in the eastern Mediterranean, when four Israeli fighter jets flew out of the afternoon sun to strafe and bomb the virtually defenseless vessel on June 8, 1967, the fourth day of what would become known as the Six-Day War.

American warplanes again targeted Shia militia forces allied to the Syrian government on Tuesday, the second strike on pro-Assad fighters in less than a month.

U.S. officials allege the militia posed a threat to Americans and the rebels they train at a base near the southern Syrian-Iraqi border crossing in al-Tanf, however based on what is known about the militia’s operations, the threat may have been non-existent.   Continue reading “U.S. Bombs Pro-Assad Forces, Again”

TOKYO — South Korea has suspended the deployment of a controversial American missile defense system, with the new liberal administration declaring that no further moves can take place until an environmental assessment is carried out — a process that could take a year or even two.

The decision highlights the potential for a rift between the United States under President Trump and South Korea with its new liberal president, Moon Jae-in, who is due to visit the White House later this month for their first meeting.    Continue reading “South Korea suspends deployment of American missile defense system”
