The Vaccine Reaction – by Kate Raines
In March 2015, science teacher Timothy Sullivan approached public health nurses administering vaccines to high school students at his school in Waterford, Ontario, Canada and asked whether they had appropriately informed the students about the potential risks of the shots they were giving. He noted that the teenagers were required to give informed consent and the nurses, therefore, had the obligation to make sure they were fully informed.1 Continue reading “Science Teacher May Be Disciplined for Urging Students Be Informed of Vaccination Risks”

There are some that believe growing our own food is the single most important thing one can do to take back the power and opt out of our corrupt system. Others prefer to grow their own food to avoid mass-produced, genetically modified produce laden with chemical pesticides, and others just like the benefit of getting essentially, free food.
By growing your own food, you can support yourself and maybe even your family, and if you can do this, then you have figured out how to take control of your life, and you do not rely on the system to survive. Continue reading “A New Flatpack Garden From Ikea Can Feed An Entire Neighbourhood”
Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, is under fire for a series of inflammatory statements he’s made in recent days about protecting our “superior civilization” from immigrants “living in enclaves” and “refusing to assimilate.” But when it comes to curbing immigration, King isn’t all talk. He’s also built a miniature model wall for the southern border and says he’s ready to have his family’s construction company in Iowa start work on the real thing. In a recent interview with Yahoo News, King said he has presented his plans to President Trump and showed off his model to Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly. Continue reading “Steve King has a model of the border wall he wants to build to protect our ‘superior civilization’”

Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
The federal government collects taxes to finance various public services. As policymakers and citizens weigh key decisions about revenues and expenditures, it is instructive to examine what the government does with the money it collects.
In fiscal year 2015, the federal government spent $3.7 trillion, amounting to 21 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP). Of that $3.7 trillion, over $3.2 trillion was financed by federal revenues. The remaining amount ($438 billion) was financed by borrowing. As the chart below shows, three major areas of spending each make up about one-fifth of the budget: Continue reading “Policy Basics: Where Do Our Federal Tax Dollars Go?”

U.K. supermarket giant Waitrose has been walking the walk when it comes to environmental issues for at least the past five years. In that time, it stopped sending waste to landfills, started selling “ugly,” less than perfect-looking produce, and began turning any food that could not be donated into electricity.
That’s already a pretty impressive track record, but the company wanted to take it a step further by reducing the environmental impact of its delivery trucks. Biodiesel fuel was considered and rejected because of its exorbitant cost, and electric trucks were found to be impractical because they make use of heavy batteries that are time-consuming to recharge.

Milwaukee, WI — Terrill Thomas’ life gradually slipped away as he languished behind the bars of a solitary confinement cell begging guards for water after they shut it off — a request repeated vociferously by fellow inmates nearby — but for at least six days, at least ten jailers ignored his cries for the most basic human need.
“Prisoners confined near Terrill Thomas’s cell overheard his cries for water for days,” court documents state, “yet correctional, medical and psychological personnel ignored those cries and never gave Terrill Thomas water, presumably as some misguided form of punishment or retribution for the alleged crimes that brought him to the justice facility.” Continue reading “‘Hero’ Sheriff Clarke Sued for Dehydrating Man to Death as He Begged for Water”
