Police Come to Iraqi Veteran’s Home, Attempt to Confiscate His Guns, He Tells Them No

Breitbart – by AWR Hawkins

Two New Jersey State Troopers showed up at Leonard Cottrell Jr.’s home to confiscate his guns and he told them no.

Cottrell served three tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom and is a disabled vet.

NJ.com reports that the that Troopers came to Cottrell’s house because “his 13-year-old son had [allegedly] made a comment at school about the Millstone Middle School’s security.”

The troopers were attempting to operate under auspices of a new firearm confiscatory law signed by Gov. Phil Murphy (D). The law allows an individual’s guns to be seized if the person is “deemed a threat to themselves and others in the state.” After finding no firearms in the son’s room, they attempted to take Cottrell’s shotgun and pistol. He quickly determined they had no warrant and told them they would not be taking his firearms.

He agreed to store his guns outside his home while his son’s comments are investigated, but that was as far as he would go.

Cottrell noted that the Troopers “danced around the issue” when he confronted them with procedure necessary to confiscate guns under the law.

He said, “No one from the state was going to take my firearms without due process.”

Sgt. First Class Jeff Flynn commented in the incident via email: “Troopers responded to Mr. Cottrell’s residence in reference to the report of a possible school threat. Based on their investigation, it was determined that Mr. Cottrell’s weapons did not need to be seized.”

  1. I doubt it was just a

    No

Let’s hear how he really shut them down
Because we all know those thugs didn’t just go

“Oh ok than see you later have a nice day”

We need all the pertinent info
Because this is all of us someday soon

I’d rather not have to shoot my way out
But if you leave me no due process
Than we will process this shit right on my front lawn
You’ll be a daisy if ya do , me too possibly

My Family is of the 100 heads policy thought process
So , take me at your own families loss
    You were fair warned

  2. “Based on their investigation, it was determined that Mr. Cottrell’s weapons did not need to be seized.”

More likely it was determined that he would shoot the bast@rds dead on the spot if they tried to take his weapons by force.

      1. Still waiting for them to hit the wrong house (or the right one, as far as we’re concerned).

        Gonna be a bloodbath.

        1. I haven’t heard of them getting away with this yet. The first attempt got a cop shot in the head, and this is only the second, as far as I know.

          1. And this is why we don’t mourn the loss of these blue gang members because they DO and they WILL follow any and all orders that violate our Bill of Rights. Some idiots cheer for them NOW because they sometimes screw the people they don’t like, but they fail to see how they make it possible for THEMSELVES to one day be the target. I hope they get it sooner than later because they want to give up MY Rights to satisfy their own little grudges.

  3. Good man!!! He knows his rights, and he’s standing up for them.

Same here… I’m not going for that “before due process” BS.

  4. “The first attempt got a cop shot in the head”…
I had not heard of this JR till you just said it. I know about the cop hit with a rock then killed, but sounds like your talking about a confiscation hit where the cop was killed. Link please.

    1. yes — they tried to confiscate one guy’s guns and he shot one of the cops in the head.

This was months ago, so I don’t have a link. He was hiding in his bedroom and when they forced their way in he started shooting.

The guy hitting the cop with a rock was a chase (today or yesterday) — I was just talking about the “red flag” gun confiscation laws.

      1. Thanks. Yes, I recall this and that the guy hiding in his room ended up dead, if I’m not mistaken.

        1. I’m not sure, Angel, but I don’t think that’s it.

I kind of remember the guy hiding out in his bedroom (rather than an attic) before shooting the cop, but I could be mistaken. And he was being disarmed under the red flag law rather than the “weapons violations” mentioned here. (and I believe it was a gay couple, or such was the speculation here after the event)

But yeah, as Katie said, he was shot dead too.

But ..since I’m working purely by memory, there’s a good chance that I don’t remember all the details clearly.
