Report: Secret ‘Talks About Talks’ Taking Place Between U.S. and North Korea

The Weekly Standard – by Daniel Harper

Despite raised tensions between the U.S. and North Korea recently, there are secret “talks about talks” taking place behind the scenes between the two countries, according to a new report.

“The United States and North Korea have been actively discussing the possibility of returning to denuclearization talks, raising the prospect of a new round of diplomacy even as Washington takes a tougher line against Pyongyang.

“The countries’ nuclear envoys have been discussing the idea of ‘talks about talks,’ according to multiple people with knowledge of the conversations. But they have not been able to agree on the logistics — in no small part because of North Korea’s continuing Ebola quarantine,” reports theWashington Post.

“We want to test if they have an interest in resuming negotiations,” a senior U.S. administration official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “I think we’ve made it very clear that we would like to see them take some steps first.”

Those steps would include suspending work at North Korea’s nuclear facilities and pledging not to conduct any further nuclear tests, he said.

  1. I have nothing against talks. Between any Nations that wish to talk. As they say Talk is Cheap. Wars cost Money.

  2. Here’s the extent of North Korea negotiations with the US:

Lil Kim: I will talk if you give us food and aid for our people.

    US: OK.

Lil Kim (days later): Thanks for the food, but if you get in my way, I will bomb you.

US: North Korea is threatening to bomb us. Time to cut off aid and prepare for war.

After months of cutting off aid with North Korea, talks resume again and the same dialogue is literally repeated over again.

Insanity. Basically doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
