JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) — The estranged stepfather of a Wisconsin man suspected of stealing guns and threatening attacks in an anti-government manifesto sent to the White House on Tuesday urged the fugitive to surrender.
Don McLean said his stepson, Joseph Jakubowski, has never had a good relationship with police and that he and his wife are concerned for his safety. “We just want him to give up. There’s no good ending to this except him giving up,” McLean, 54, told The Associated Press during an interview Tuesday in which he repeatedly pleaded for his stepson to surrender.
More than 150 state and federal law enforcement officers have been searching for the 32-year-old Jakubowski since April 4, when they believe he took 18 firearms from a gun store in Janesville in southwestern Wisconsin. Law enforcement found Jakubowski’s burnt vehicle nearby and have investigated more than 400 leads in his pursuit.
An image of Jakubowski taken from a surveillance video at a gas station the day he disappeared adorns billboards on Wisconsin’s interstates and on the road into Janesville, a rural city of about 64,000 where houses stand next to plots of farmland about 70 miles (110 kilometers) southwest of Milwaukee.
Rock County Sheriff Robert Spoden has said Jakubowski threatened to attack schools and public officials in the 161-page manifesto that he mailed to President Donald Trump. Jakubowski spoke of a “revolution” in a video that shows him dropping a package addressed to Trump in a mailbox.
The White House has not commented on Jakubowski’s manifesto. McLean said his stepson has a history of clashing with police and he’s worried about what will happen if there’s a confrontation. “What I know is every time he has a confrontation with the police, it almost always goes violent. He’s always been anti-police,” McLean said.
Janesville Police Chief David said Jakubowski has had several run-ins with law enforcement, mostly for traffic violations, and that he once tried to disarm an officer in 2008. WKOW-TV reported that Jakubowski appeared to urge the officer to shoot him during the altercation, saying “Just (expletive) do it,” according to court documents.
On Monday, the sheriff’s office released photos of tattoos Jakubowski has on his right arm. On his right hand one says “True.” He has “BOS” on the upper part of his arm, among others. Authorities are urging the public to call with information on his whereabouts but are warning people not to approach him. The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
The sheriff’s office has said Jakubowski also has a bulletproof vest and a helmet. McLean said he has not talked to his stepson since he kicked him out of their house two years ago because of “differences of opinion.” McLean said Jakubowski once worked as a roofer, but he didn’t know where he was living or whether he had been recently employed.
He said he became Jakubowski’s stepfather when he was around a year old. “He was a good kid. I mean, he was all right. Then as he grew up, adolescence took over. Not listening. You get to an age where you know more than your parents. Just that, standard stuff,” he said.
McLean said he knows Jakubowski is mad at him, but he wanted him to know his parents don’t want to see him get hurt or for him to hurt anyone else. “His mother wants him, would rather have him alive. I want him alive,” he said. “Whatever he’s doing, I can’t see it ending well unless he surrenders.”
Anyone with information on Jakubowski’s whereabouts is asked to call 1-800-CALLFBI.
SURE F-B-I…… I’M JUST SITTIN’ AROUND HOPIN TO SEE JOSEPH JUST SO’S I CAN CALL YOUR DUMB ASSES FOR MONEY……. DIE PIGS!!!!!!
He can’t be all that bad if he sees the pigs for what they are.
If I saw him somewhere, I’d keep my mouth shut. And if they do find him, I hope he makes things “unpleasant” for them.
Having seen some of the police actions of late, I can understand someone not having a good relationship.
First, a video of a ninety-pound female being hurled, body slammed, to the ground.
Second, a handcuffed individual being head stomped. Also, several years ago, I watched as a cop punched a guy at least two or three times in the face. This individual was also being restrained in handcuffs.
Do some of these people bring it on themselves? Absolutely! However, once someone is restrained and in custody that type of police conduct is unacceptable. And, we all remember the Roddy King incident.
Hi Richard,
You probably already understand this, but I’ll point it out anyway: even if someone deliberately acts out in a way that provokes the police, they still have NO business using more than necessary force to arrest that person.
It’s never, ever the job of the police to punish crime. When they do so, they become criminals themselves, and something even worse: traitors to the Bill of Rights. Their job is to use the minimum necessary force to arrest people suspected of REAL crimes (which excludes all “malum prohibitum” crimes) and deliver them to a court so the proper punishment, if any, can be determined.
Be that as it may, these considerations are largely moot, as ALL police in the US today are guilty of helping to prop up a tyrannical police state. They are the “tip of the spear” in the enforcement of unjust laws against victimless crimes (drug prohibition, prostitution, gun laws, etc.), and also in the continued transformation of our country into a giant prison yard in which no one’s rights are guaranteed. Even those pigs who don’t abuse their position are all too willing to help cover up the crimes of their colleagues who do.
In a word, police in the US are an occupying army. They may not be a foreign occupying army, but the end result is similar. Anything bad that happens to them as the result of their participation in that army is well-deserved.
“We just want him to give up. There’s no good ending to this except him giving up,”
Remember that when you’re on that FEMA bus, or standing next to the ditch with the .40 cal at the back of your head, acquiescing b#tch.
“What I know is every time he has a confrontation with the police, it almost always goes violent.”
That’s because the pigs are only there to ‘help’.
“He’s always been anti-police,”
As ANY intelligent being should be.
“The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture.”
OH! OH! I KNOW WHERE HE IS!!!
Yer mama’s house.
Where’s my ten grand?
So, someone was filming him dropping the package…he’s not alone. His truck was burned which means he is on foot, or he is not alone and got a ride. Both point to he is not alone. The question is how many are with him. It is lone wolves who are easily caught, left to wander in woods, etc until they are cornered and murdered. On the other hand the belt way snipers were a party of two look how long it took for them to be caught…if he has a network, it may be that some semblance of a revolution will take place, be it a localized event or short lived.
