AUSTIN – A 17-year-old man is in police custody in the death of a University of Texas student and police are planning to pursue charges against him Friday, KVUE’s Tony Plohetski has learned.
Ploehtski reported that multiple law enforcement sources have confirmed the development in the case of who killed 19-year-old Haruka Weiser, a freshman at UT. The sources would not identify the teen because he has not been charged.
Sources told Plohetski that Austin firefighters provided a crucial tip to police after they responded to a small fire involving a backpack and that they may have recovered some of Weiser’s belongings.
Austin Police have tentatively scheduled a mid-afternoon news conference to update the public.
This is a breaking news story, stay with KVUE and KVUE.com for the latest updates throughout the day.

“Authorities are offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s identification and arrest.”
….and they’ll spend another $15,000 deporting him to the safety of Mexico where he’ll never face justice, and can find himself a new name to re-enter America with.
I doubt that Meechiael Khalil Criner will be deported to Mexico.
“Meechaiel Criner (mih-kah-EEL’ KRY’-nur) has been arrested in UT – Austin freshman dance major Haruka Weiser’s death, according to a press conference by the Austin Police Department. He has been identified as a 17-year-old black male who is homeless in the area.”
