U.S. on alert for possible fireworks bombs

UPI

WASHINGTON, June 29 (UPI) — Security officials said U.S. police should be on the alert for bombs made from July Fourth fireworks during the upcoming holiday week.

ABC News said the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI sent out a nationwide notice to law enforcement agencies reminding officers and agents a lot of fireworks are sold in July, and some could end up in the wrong hands.

“Recent incidents in the Homeland demonstrate that consumer fireworks — widely used during the upcoming celebrations — can be misused by criminals and violent extremists to construct improvised explosive devices,” the notice said.

ABC said such notices are routine but the use of homemade bombs in an attack at the Boston Marathon in April may have added new urgency to the potential threat.

The FBI noted the accused Marathon bombers had allegedly considered carrying out their attack in Boston on July Fourth, in an area where a large number of people were present. The suspects allegedly obtained the gunpowder used in the bombs from a legal fireworks retailer in New Hampshire.

  1. Some how I knew this could possibly happen. What with national security,
natural security, knocking on my door like tommyknokers, tommyknockers
knocking on my door; I want to go out for Fourth of July but I don’t know
if I can, cuz I am so afraid of the tommyknockers.

  2. “Recent incidents in the Homeland…”

Homeland? What the hell is that?

The firecracker bombs I made as a kid would get one arrested these days.

    1. I agree, Cathleen. Seems like it would be the perfect time for a pressure cooker full of fireworks to go off, and we could directly track it to the Fireworks Blow’em up Idiots=FBI. Sure wouldn’t be any true patriotic American national doing it.

  3. during martial law and house to house searches i hear a good time not to be found at home is the holidays. best guess would be thanksgiving. not saying its going to happen but if it did…

  4. I know, just declare martial law ,I mean shelter in place ,and let the cops roam the streets like predators and the problem will be solved! They could even practice that deadly force thing with anyone holding a bomb/fire cracker in their hands. What a perfect time for them to ride around in their new armored personnel vehicles so they too would be safe!

  5. This story is right on the edge of being too stupid to comment on, but since I’m already here:

It’s a hell of a lot easier to make your own gunpowder that is it to extract the stuff from a million firecrackers, and EVERYONE who ever thought about building a bomb knows this.

“the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI sent out a nationwide notice to law enforcement agencies reminding officers and agents a lot of fireworks are sold in July, and some could end up in the wrong hands.”

Was this “nationwide notice to law enforcement agencies” written by Monty Python himself?

I guess they need to inform U.S. cops about what the fourth of July is so they can keep their eyes open for babies with sparklers.

In every statement, and in every move they make, the Department of Homeland Security proves to the American people that they’re a useless waste of time and money. I think this agency was only created to give jobs to a lot of politicians’ relatives who are just too stupid to find work on their own.
