WHY I CARRY: Couple Mercilessly Beaten by Group of 8+ People

Guns Save Lives – by Dan Cannon

Here is another one of our “Why I Carry” stories. These stories, unlike our defensive gun uses, take a look at situations that may have turned out very differently if the victim(s) had been armed. These stories also serve as an important reminder as to why it’s important to carry everyday.

Sadly, I feel like we’re having to post too many of these types of stories recently.

According to local media:

The assault took place on Friday, August 22, 2014, at 318 South Ave. in Springfield, MO.

If you can identify the suspects in the provided video, or if you have any information related to the crime, you are asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at (417) 864-1810 or Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).

You can also leave a tip with Crime Stoppers online or text a tip by texting 417SPD plus your tip to 274637.

As always, I have to point out that a firearm may or may not have helped prevent or stop this assault. However, better situational awareness and planning (ie not walking down an alley late at night) could have almost certainly helped prevent the incident.

Also, I prefer to have options whenever possible.

  1. This is one of the primary reasons that the second amendment must be defended! Not being armed means that you are playing the odds that you will survive an assault and that the police will get there fast enough to prevent your death (which we all know is not likely going to happen).

  2. Laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined, nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.
