Anchor on hot mic bashes government assistance programs using colorful language, angers viewers

Biz Pac Review – by Cheryl Carpenter Klimek

A New York news anchor didn’t know the mic was on and the live camera rolling on Wednesday when he and a reporter cursed and joked about government assistance programs.

News 12 The Bronx anchor Matt Pieper and reporter Amy Yensi were preparing to report on the need for school crossing guards in certain areas, according to TV Spy, when they made the following remarks:

Pieper: And Dave wants you to also mention that parents do their f**king jobs and walk their little kids to school on their own and not rely on everyone else kind of like people rely on government assistance for their entire lives. And bye Felicia. I actually added the part about government assistance but it’s true. I mean, how old are these kids?

Yensi: I think I qualify for government assistance (laughs)

Pieper: Just check that box, girl

Yensi: #EBT

Social media lit up with these comments like these posted on the News 12 Facebook page:

Canen Solae C I Was Watching Matt Piper He Will Be Suspended By The Morning ..Everyone Is Not taking advantage of Government Assistance some people Actually need the help ,just as well as the children that have to walk them selfs to school in the morning because some of us or single moms with no help & some are Parents have to be at work by 6:30 & wanna make sure our kids are safe going to school
Anne Ledesma Good to know I was not the only one that heard the f bomb…both their comments were unnecessary especially when talking about children and people that depend on food stamps…I know of old people that have worked their entire life and get pennies from retirement not cool…and to think I liked Amy and Matt… #dontwanttoseetheminthemorningnomore

As a result of a technical error during a program break this morning, a personal conversation between an anchor and a reporter was unintentionally placed on the air. The conversation included offensive language and inappropriate commentary. News 12 the Bronx deeply regrets that this incident took place. The remarks of these individuals in no way reflect the views of News 12 management or other News 12 personnel. Steps have been taken to deal with the employees involved and resolve the technical issues. We take this incident extremely seriously and we sincerely apologize to all who may have been offended.

News anchors should know — there’s no such thing as a personal conversation when you’re wearing a microphone.

  1. Good one. I am sure this exchange is available in millions of households
everyday. Reminds me of OCommie complaining about the American
flags waving on a patriotic holiday or his comment about he would
rather be golfing then celebrating America’s history which was not
    meant to be over-heard.

  2. “Canen Solae C I Was Watching Matt Piper He Will Be Suspended By The Morning”

Don’t you just love how the media is like the police. If we said stuff like this, we would be fired in a heartbeat or even threatened with prison time, but when they say it, they get a tiny little suspension and some even with pay.

    It disgusts me.

  3. Of course it angered ‘viewers’.

The majority of those on (so-called) ‘government’ assistance have no jobs, so naturally the majority of their lives are spent practicing Amerika’s favorite pastime… television ‘viewing’.

    In other words, being ‘programmed’.

  4. “…just as well as the children that have to walk them selfs to school in the morning…”

“them selfs”? Yep, I see our education system is doing a fine job.
