Miami, FL — In the land of the free, police will use any excuse, often ridiculous and asinine ones, to pull over citizens to conduct fishing expeditions for contraband or to outright extort them. We’ve seen countless people pulled over for air fresheners, window tint, license plate lights, and even for driving under the speed limit because safety was suspicious. The following case, however, is something we have never seen. A cop pulled over an innocent man because a corner of his still legible license plate, was bent.  Continue reading “Innocent Man Swarmed by Cops, Dragged from Car, Beaten Over a Bent License Plate”

Oregon officials have long floated making mask rules a more “permanent” fixture in the state, and they made it a reality — at least for school settings.  Continue reading “Oregon Health Authority Adopts ‘Permanent’ Rules for Masking in Schools”

HOUSTON — When Texas authorities began charging migrants who crossed into the state from Mexico with trespassing last year, officials quickly encountered a problem: The two small rural counties tasked with prosecuting the cases became overwhelmed.

Among the many issues — crowded jails, a lack of defense lawyers — there were not enough judges, particularly in Kinney County, a border community about 120 miles west of San Antonio where the state’s effort has been most aggressively enforced. Three retired judges were brought in by the state to help, starting in the late summer. Continue reading “Cases Dismissed, Judges Replaced: Texas Struggles to Prosecute Migrants”
